It's an adult only reception, yet the 2 children in the wedding party aren't invited? That's rude. Personally, I don't like adult only receptions, but the ones that I've been to, have ALWAYS included the children in the wedding party - they've always been there.

For an out of town wedding where children are asked to be in the wedding party - - this is RUDE!It is very common for an exception to be made for kids in the wedding party when 'adults only' is what the couple wants. If I were your friend, I would pull out of the wedding, or at minimum pull the kids out of the wedding and let her Mom watch them at home.I'm ok with adults only when people aren't traveling, but to have it out-of-town and not allow kids is just awfully rude! Most babysitters won't work 24hrs a day. And how many people would trust their kids overnight with someone?

Ok I am having an adults only wedding but even I think this is rude! First of all, "adults only" should not go on the invitation at all. (Common sense says that if a name is not on the invite, they are not invited). If the children are in the wedding, especially if it requires extensive travel, they should definitely be at the reception.

Is she offering childcare? If not- that is so awful of her, I would not get a gift. I would not let my children be in the wedding, if it were me.I can understand adults only receptions in some cases, but not when she asked kids to travel to be in the ceremony?wtf!

since they are IN the wedding they should be able to go to the reception. it is rude to have them there and then make them leave. of course, the parents might prefer to get a sitter for them, but it's rude to make them if they are in the wedding. as for everyone else though, it's normal and unfortunately just part of goign to weddings.

She should have told your friend this so she could have decided up front whether this was something she could handle or not. I don't think there's anything wrong with an adult-only reception, I do think there's something wrong with surprising people with something that's going to cost them money.

Usually the children in the bridal party are allowed at the reception. Sometimes, they leave after dinner, but how does she expect the friend to come from out of town have her two children in the wedding and then what? Leave them in the hotel room? Maybe the bride misunderstood the question.
