The photographer we chose does a 4 hour trash the dress session after the wedding, where you get to shoot in locations you normally wouldn't on the day. Locations are up to the bride with suggestions of fave locations from the photographer. Places he has shot is a lake, sunflower fields, laying in the grass just to name a few. One girl even wanted to stand in a dumpster - I know, weird! Basically, any shot you wouldn't want to do on the day just in case you fall in the lake or get a grass stain on the dress, etc. Is this common? I had never heard of this! You don't actually "trash" the dress (that was my fear too), though run the risk of getting the hem a bit dirtier than you would like for your wedding day. He doesn't shoot in locations where you run the risk of ruining the dress beyond repair. Just shots that may get you a bit dirty but dry cleanable! Our photographer doesn't do it the day after as a "gift opening" is the custom where I live. It would be after our honeymoon once all the dust has settled and is just the bride doing wacky shots!

I've heard of it and personally it doesn't appeal to me..Why do i want to trash a dress that cost me 600 dollars?Yeah i'm going to wear it one day only but that doesn't mean we can't make christening gown out of it or give it to my daughter to wear.

I had never heard of it either but one of the photographers that I'm looking into does it. Sounds pretty cool but I'm having a destination wedding so I won't have time to do this shoot with him since we'll be leaving for the honeymoon, then going home. He had some great shots of it though. Fun!

Mabey we are the only two people, because I've never heard of it before. But I have to say that it sounds like fun. Go for it and have a good time.

I would do it, but I think I would go to a second hand store (Salvation Army or Saint Vincent De Pauls)and pick up a dress for next to nothing -- use that one and keep your beautiful dress safe. I think it would be a hoot.

Only very recently (in the last few months) was it called 'trash the dress'. Prior to that, it was simply known as 'day-after photo shoots'. It originated in Los Angeles with wedding photographer Jessica Claire and her colleague Becker. They used to be the only ones who offered it anywhere. Then somehow the name got changed and it became known worldwide.I don't have any idea why someone came up with the name 'trash the dress'. I have seen pics on both Jessica's site and Becker's and none of them have literally trashed anything. They're simply more relaxed fun shots that they aren't able to get on the wedding day. Honestly I don't think it's near as common as people claim. Not everyone anymore saves their dress. They may sell it or give it to a charity. Many are of the belief that their daughter would rather have her own dress in her own style.

Yep, it's pretty common. You here about everything when you start planning a wedding.

Never heard of it, but it sounds like a lot of fun! Maybe not the day after... I don't think I'll look very great the day after my wedding... but shortly thereafter...

I'm getting married in September and my chosen photographer offers an optional "wreck the dress" session. No, you don't actually ruin it, but you take fun shots in it that might get your hem dirty. You'd have to have the dress cleaned and preserved again, but you'd also have those fun shots without the pressure of the wedding day. I'm not sure if I'm going to do it or not. I have contracted for eight hours of photography plus a pre-wedding portrait, so that might be enough for me.

IMO, the shots are very classy and show another side to the couple. The pics I have seen show no mud, the dresses stay clean, but you get to let loose and do whatever you want in your dress. Now, the dress I want costs a few hundred dollars, but I want to buy a 'spare' for 50 or 60 on eBay to do my shoot in, and my mother can take the shots herself, or I can have my aunt, who is an excellent photographer do it. I think those would be great pictures, especially if you have your fiance or husband in khakis and a button-down posing with you!!!
