| I have a Nikon D80 digital SLR with a Nikkor 80-200mm F2.8 lens. Any advice for camera settings and such to get some good quality indoor Hockey shots? |

| Indoors you will have to do three things. Shoot wide open, adjust your WB for the lighting in the arena. Adjust the ISO on your camera so you can shoot at a shutter speed of at least 1/250th second .. faster would be better.You may notice that the pros use some kind of wireless trigger so they can use the strobes mounted above the goal areas and at other key locations on the ice. |

| Well lets look at the old FotoSharp (fotosharp.com) "Day & Night Exposure Guide" and see what it suggests. Looking at Scene # 8: Indoor sports, circus - floodlit we find:Using ISO 3200f2.8 @ 1/500f4 @ 1/250f5.6 @ 1/125Using ISO 1600f2.8 @ 1/250f4 @ 1/125f5.6 @ 1/60Using ISO 800f2.8 @ 1/125f4 @ 1/60f5.6 @ 1/30The question now is this: Is your 2.8 lens a "constant aperture" from 80mm to 200mm or is there a second f-stop associated with the 200mm length? If so, you'll have to be guided by it in choosing your ISO. If its a 2.8 from 80-200mm then you should be able to do fairly well at ISO 1600. Just turn on the Noise Reduction and have at it.Note: Your actual conditions may vary so I'd suggest shooting in Shutter Priority and watching what f-stop the camera selects. Of course you could always just go to ISO 3200. |
