I've never been to a Catholic wedding before..all it says in the invitation is: "Traditional Mass wedding without Communion from 7pm-8pm. Cocktail hour: 8pm-9pm. Reception: 9pm-12midnight: more cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres, toasts, cake, dancing, and counting down the New Year."What's the etiquette on attire?? Can I wear a shorter dress/skirt...like just above the knee or knee length...or does it have to be ankle length?? Anyone know??OH..also..are traditional Catholic weddings formal..like..prom formal or like church dress formal?? I have a black velour long sleeve dress that's ankle length...is that ok?

There's really no set standard for dress at a traditional Catholic wedding held in the evening unless specifically mentioned on the invitation. However, given your other details it could range between semi-formal to formal wear. A shorter dress would fit into the first category, but would be unsuitable for the second "formal wear" category. Go for something a little glamorous, maybe sparkling, between knee and ankle length, but not revealing (as in plunging neckline, or totally backless).

It depends on the Church. The church my parents go to is Catholic, but a very liberal one where jeans are acceptable and common during mass. Some others are more formal. I'd shoot for something comfortable for YOU! If that means nice pants and a blouse, fine. If that means a shorter dress, fine! I'm in ND, so I'd HAVE to wear something warm this time of year. But I really wouldn't worry too much about the Catholic aspect. Find something you like and consider appropriate (probably nothing showing loads of cleavage or midriff) and go with it.Have a good time!

Where and How to Start?
There’s so much to do, it can be mind-numbing. Don’t worry. I planned and held my first wedding in two months and my second wedding in three months. If you have the luxury of a year or more, feel lucky!
Wedding Invitation
Ideally, invitations should be mailed out 6-8 weeks before the big day to give guests time to make arrangements to attend and RSVP back to you.
Wedding Attire
Where I come from, buying a tuxedo is virtually unheard of. Renting is probably the way to go to realize the ultimate savings on the groom’s attire.
Wedding Flowers
Cheap doesn't mean that your wedding flowers can't be beautiful. All flowers are lovely no matter what they cost.
Wedding Ceremony Decoration
Most wedding ceremonies are short and sweet, so why spend a majority...
Wedding Music
Music for your wedding ceremony could consist of live or recorded performances.
Wedding Photography

Wedding Favors
Some brides don’t like the idea of giving gifts to her guests, but we think it’s a nice gesture as a thank you...

Wedding Party
The question of whether or not to serve alcohol at your wedding is one that can cause dissension in the ranks of family.
