Maybe a stupid question...but I am getting married in 2 weeks and need to go on the pill.Do I just go into my doctor and ask for a perscription? Do they need to do any tests first? I have never had a pap test or anything...my fiance and I are both still virgins. Also...I haven't had my period in about 3 months (because of my eating disorder). If I go on the pill, it will obviously come back...can I kind of "choose" when to get it? Because I obviously don't want it for hte wedding night or honeymoon!!I am so clueless. Thanks for your help. Oh yeah I live in BC...not sure if it is different in other provinces

You have to make an appointment with the doctor and they'll give you a pap test to make sure your cells are normal. It is a procedural thing that doctors have do to make sure that you are able to take it and they will also look at your other stats to make sure that you don't have a history of strokes.

Just tell you doctor that you want to get on birth control (BC). He/she should go over the types of birth control and see what is right for you. For instance, I can not take the pill because I don't remember to take the darn thing. So, anything that is weekly or monthly is good for me. They do have BC where you can only have periods about 3x a year but, I've heard really negative things about them. Appartently, they cause clotting b/c of the back up of blood and with clotting, you can potentially die if it is not caught in time. Since you haven't had a period due to your eating disorder, I suggest you consult with your doctor about that also...they should be able to tell you the best thing to do. But don't just go off of what they say...do what is comfortable for you.

You need to go to your Dr. tell him/her your situation and they will ask you if you're sexually active, when your last period was. ect.....They will also suggest you get a pap-smear, seeing that birth control and speed up the growth of cancer cells, but there is a good chance they will give you a prescription without a pap-smear.When you start birth control, there will be 3 weeks of active pills, and 1 week of sugar pills. During the week of sugar pills, you will have your period.Good Luck and Congrats!
