I want to do a very elegant wedding & reception. I'm thinking Black....white....gold. I want the dresses to all be different and every woman has a black dress.......Is it cheap to have my 5 brides maids just wear a black dress that they already have?I wasnt planning of having them pay for any of it but my reception hall is just REALLY expensive so I'm trying to cut cost in other areas like the dresses and the Minister (my father)

I am sure the bridesmaids would love this idea. They won't have to dish out all that money for a dress they are most likely only going to wear one time! I think it's a great idea.

Cheap for the bridesmaids, yes! And they will THANK you!But no, it won't "look" cheap or even unusual. It's very common to allow the girls to pick thier own style dress that suits their body type best.

Not if the dresses all are the same type. By this i mean it would look off if one bridesmaid was wearing a black formal and another was wearing a black sun dress. But if they are all black formal dresses then I think it's fine.

It's the bridesmaids that buy the dresses, so it couldn't be cheap on your part. I think it's quite considerate of you, and I'm sure they will love the idea. And, if anyone wants to buy a new dress for the occasion, they can, but the pressure is off.

Nope I don't think it's tacky... But because I'm picky. I would have to see all their dresses to ensure that all of them are black and not dusty and ashy. I would however do away with the gold and go for silver. Silver looks better with black...

yeah, I think it is a great idea...but, different types of fabric and possibly different shades of black could stand out. I would give it a go and see what they all look like together. But, even if it doesn't work...the girls can all get a little black dress...everyone can use another one of those and they will be comfortable. You could maybe save $$ for them by going to a department store and picking several styles (in the same fabric maybe same brand to ensure color) and allow them to choose.

I think it's a great idea! No one ever again wears the dress they had to buy when being a bridesmaid, no matter what it looks like. If the dresses coordinate (length, sleeves, etc.) and you think they will photograph well together go for it! Your bridesmaids will love you and your wedding will be less stressful for you!Congrats on your wedding and new life!
