| I am a bit of a beginner in photography and was wondering about purchasing some lighting equiptment. Any suggestions on what to buy without spending a lot? I prefer to buy over ebay or somewhere Australia based. Any suggestions on what to search for on ebay? |

The very best light is outside, right after dawn. It's the reason models get up at the crack of dawn. I usually do, too, but recently I've gotten lazy - and not a lot of good pictures. If you're a beginner, free lighting is as good as it gets. |

| www.bhphoto.comwww.adorama.comThey have a tungsten 3 light set for $210, comes with light stands and umbrellas.I wouldn't trust Ebay for soemthing like this. |

| When you buy cheap you buy frustration. I recommend as a low end item the least expensive AlienBee (alienbees.com) the build up as you can afford. I bought two cheap lights once because they were small and good for hair and background lights. When they broke (quite quickly) they could not be repaired and hit the trash. Britek should last 10 - 15 shoots. Not very economical in the long run. Alien Bee is made by Paul C Buff who also makes White Lightning, I have had 5 WL lights for over 20 years and the Alien Bee for about six. The cheapies didn't last a year. |

| Don't forget that continuous lighting is also an option. Some of the new fluorescent type set ups seem to work very well. |
