I am a type 1 Diabetic, and getting married in May. What are some ideas on being able to have a wedding cake! We want to cake to be good for everyone else, meaning we don't want the entire cake to be sugar free. I have a lot of problems with my blood sugar, and really cant have that much sugar. We really can not afford two different cakes. Any thoughts?? This whole wedding is stressing me out!!!

Typically, you pay the most money for the huge pretty cake, but the actual cake you serve is made by the same people, but in sheets. That is done because it's easier to serve and it looks nicer because the pieces are pre-cut.You can opt to have another kind of dessert or ask if they can make a tiny sugar-free cake for you. They shouldn't charge you THAT much for it. If they do, go to a cheaper place (i.e.: supermarket) and ask the bakery to make you a small sugar-free cake.

Well do you really have to eat cake? I mean I know its traditional to have your new husband feed you some but is it that big of a deal. I think I will be too excited to eat at my wedding. My suggestion: Get a big pretty white cake for your guests because most people don't like sugar free cake. Then later buy a small, sugar free one to share with your husband.

honestly, some sugar free cake isn't bad. you could always contact the bakery you wanted to use, and see if they offer sugar-free cake, and go and taste it. also, if you do decide to go completely sugar-free, let guests know. i know my aunt has bladder problems, and splenda or artificial sweetner makes her bladder act up. you could always just have a layer of a tier cake that's sugar free, too.

My dear, don't be so stressed. Just go ahead with the regular cake, and ask your baker to make a sugar free piece of cake for you. This way when you cut the cake, you can have your husband take a little bit of the sugar free cake (a quick "slight of hand" switcheroo) and feed it to you. You can still feed him regular cake. And, then you can finish the sugar free cake with your coffee. And, perhaps ask for a little fruit plate on the side in case the cake is not satisfying enough. No biggie, honey. Remember in grade school when your momma used to send along a piece of sugar free cake when you went to birthday parties? Just do the same thing for your wedding.

Stress also increases your blood sugar, so calm down and enjoy the wedding and excitement of the occasion. For the cake, you could have a regular cake for your guests. You could have the baker make one layer of the cake, sugar free for you. Have the baker make you a mini cake for you.Or, just have the one cake and enjoy one tiny slice, just watch the rest of your sugar intake on your day.Good luck.

The cake should be the last thing to stress you out. Most bakers will certainly work with the bridal couple to accomidate any special dietary needs. Go ahead and make your special cake, but have a small piece of sugar free or angel food cake hidden behind the big cake. Cut the main cake and feed your groom, then have him pick up the sugar free piece to feed you. No one will notice. I've done wedding cakes for over 15 years and have used this method so everyone can take part in the celebration and pictures. Remember, you don't need to have icing on it either. Best wishes to you and your groom!

Go to a baker or ask a friend to subistute your sugar for apple sauce with no sugar. It can be used in cookies and breads too. But good bakers carry a good cake that they can make with apple sauce instead for Splenda which is for Diabetics. I have baked for friends that are diabetic or have digestive issues where they can't have any sugar. THis was a great alterative and natural with great flavor that everyone loves. I also have Chef Certification and well some people go to the Sugar free and Splenda thing but honestly natural flavors make it better. Oh, as for frosting use carmelized glaze made from reduced cooked 100% fruit juice so you have natural sugars. and top with fruit. The purpose of a cake is to taste good and this is an excellent way to give the sweetness and still watch your sugar intake.

I like the idea of having your own sugar free cake. The bakery where you are getting your big cake would no doubt be glad to make you one. A little tiny surgarless replica of your big sugary cake would be cute, so would coming up with your own design for just you and your groom. It would not cost as much as having to have 2 full cakes. And tap into family sources, and see if somebody can bake you a little sugarless cake, with splenda. And then decorate it cute. You and the groom could then cut your little cake, and then cut the big one. Two photo ops. Let your groom guide your hand cutting one, and guide his hand on the second. Woman's liberation, I'm a child of the 60's, what can I say?And don't stress out about having to make special cake arrangements. Everybody close to you knows you're type one, and will have to do things a little different. And take heart, you're not the first diabetic bride, nor will you be the last. Others have done it, you can too!Congrats!
