I have organised many Barn Dances in my time. The essential ingredient is an accordion band. The next important ingredient is CYDER! (preferably Scrumpy, but Strongbow, or the like are good alternatives and, possibly more to Townie taste......... anything except Magners!)Food is whatever you wish! The Hog Roast is a fashionable and easily booked option. However, we used to rely on buffets.......... loads of cheeses, pies, salads and the odd stew, chook and sausages. Do not forget a tureen of rich soup!Have fun!

Check out this site for ideas:http://community.theknot.com/cs/ks/user/page.aspx?username=fallingupI would advise skipping the bucking bronco and the bouncy castle. I always feel the focus of the wedding should remain on bride and groom. Your guests are there to see YOU . . . not the bucking bronco or the bouncy castle. The hog roast would be okay. Just remember to include a veggie dinner option for the vegetarians. As long as you have good food and good music, the guests will entertain themselves. No broncos or castles will be needed.

The hog roast sounds good, you can also include anything that you would take to a b-que, like b-que chicken, potato salad, burgers, ribs. I wouldn't do the bucking bronco, because if some got hurt you can get sued, especially if you are having alcohol at the reception.

I went to a barn dance wedding reception and it was great! An accordian band is the main thing you will need - you can't dance without music! Make sure you get one that comes with a tutor - we were taught the dances by one first and it was hilarious. We had hog roast, corn on the cobs, plenty of pickles and salads, chicken wings and legs etc. The best part for the kiddies was the bouncy castle. It was outside in the play area and even the bride got thrown on in full wedding attire. Fun fun fun!Don't get the bucking bronco though - they cause injuries with drink and you could end up with some nasty broken limbs!Have fun what ever you decide!
