Or do you leave at them at home whilst someone comes to feed/check up on them etc? We're going away on honeymoon for 2 weeks and it'll be the longest ours as ever been left alone. He is quite happy for a few days if the neighbour comes in and feeds him etc, but we've never left him for this long. He's only been to a cattery once before and he HATED it!!What do you do when in a similar situation (i.e. about to take a 'longish' holiday). I don't really want to worry all honeymoon about whether he's ok!Cheers. Smile

I'd leave him at home if a neighbour is willing to take care of him at least he is in his own surroundings. With your smell around him. As long as your neighbour is ok with him you can always phone her and check upOne thing though make sure u let you vet know and sign over consent to your neighbour just in case he needs treatment for anything!Enjoy your honeymoon!

I have good neighbours and they feed our cats (2). I would never send my cats to a cattery.Ask your neighbours and have a fantastic honeymoon. (wink wink)

Always put our cat in a cattery. She soon settles down after we have left.It is a safe environment for her. I would worry if she was left at home for 2 weeks, she would feel worse being alone. As long as your cat has had his injections any cattery will take him. Why not visit a few and look around. He will benefit from a safe environment: even if he doesn't talk to you for a couple of days when you get back!

I would use a cattery.....although he might not like it he will be safe and looked after. The problem with having a neighbour into feed is that he might go missing or he might become ill and your neighbour might not notice. If you are in the UK have a look at the FAB website, they have approved catteries which are 1st class.NEVER go for a cattery because it is cheap or its the nearest one to you.

I think he would be safer in a cattery. You dont want to risk him running away if he thinks you are not coming back. Also, if he takes ill while in a cattery, they will take him to a vet.I leave my cat in a cattery, he used to go to one which he hated but I found a better one where the staff are much kinder and take time to brush and play with the cats daily and he is much more relaxed when he comes home now.It would be worth your while investigating the catteries in your area and finding one where the cats are well cared for as many catteries which also house dogs pay no attention to the cats as they are too busy walking dogs during the day to give the cats any time other than to feed them. There are also services where people will "house sit" your cat in its own home but these can be costly.

We have an arrangement with our neighbour who also has cats. They come to our place to feed and play with our cat and when we go away, we go and do the same for their cats. The good thing is that the cats get to stay in their own environment and still gets fed regularly/have the litter box emptied. This of course means that you have to place some trust in your neighbours. That they are cat owners themselves implies that they know what they are doing. For us, it's nice to know that our kitty is being entertained in between long naps!If we're away for a longer period, our neighbour even emails us pics of our cat and what she is up to!This was the solution we found when we realised our cat isn't very sociable with other cats.

If you have nice neighbours and you trust them I would leave him at home, less stressful... I did that with my old cat and he was fine. Plus I don't trust cattery's... My friends cat escaped from one when he was left at the desk with his mom by the delivery guy and he was never found. The cattery did replace him, but it's just not the same! The mother cat didn't take to the new kitten and missed her son.

I'd give him to another friend THAT YOU KNOW QUITE WELL that actually has a cat. If they take good care of their cat, then there is no doubt that they will take good care of yours while you are away.

i suggest you kook at more than 1 cattery, its best if they can b in their own home, but if the house is empty a cattery is the answer, look for 1 with a run attached to the kennel, then hes not confined in a area that's claustrophobic, leave enough food for the time your away, keeping them on their usual diet helps, and leave a blanket that smells of you,as they settle better, and let the cattery owner now how he likes to b handled, 1 of my cats hates her tummy touched, and the other 1hates to have her tail touched, this way they can care for your cat and he can settle in with less stress.

I think you can leave them if you have someone you trust to take care of them. They will love to be around their own surroundings and you smell. We left our two new kitties for one nite and when we got back on Sunday, they were much more affectionate when we returned! Coming from 2 independant kitties, we were thrilled. Just make sure you check in once in a while. Enjoy your honeymoon and congratulations!

I think that a dog is a bit much to look after but if the neighbors/friends are willing to stop in for cats then that would be fine, it saves unsettling the cat(s)To take the pressure off others, I have an electronic timed feeder and gravity fed feeders (can use one of these for water), so it means if they cant stop in or are going to be very busy that day then they know the cats will be fed and watered just fine. Buy an extra little litter tray too, incase they are shut in for a day. This way the neighbor is checking on them, making sure they are ok, fresh water, food, litter, let them in/out but there is no pressure that if they dont have time or are going away for a weekend too, then the cats will still be ok.Leave your camera for them to email you a pic n let you know they are ok and the house is fine etc. That way you wont be constantly worried.
