| With us all travelling and communicating like we do now, is this one area where the world should come together?I frequently read on here that sex for under 18s is illegal. Not where I live in the UK it's not. And nor is it in most of the world. We could have a situation where a groom takes his 16 year old bride on honeymoon somewhere and find's himself in jail.Doesn't matter how old the groom is vista, the age of consent is 16 in the UK. |

| there should be no age of consent anywhere, honestly in our society we've all become accustom to being married in our 20's and 30's, what no one seems to understand is that the body is ready to reproduce at about the ages 10-14, and since in our original existance people only lived to be 30 or so, it was natural to reproduce at an early age.Also no one back then would have lived to be 70.-Zack |

Different people age differently depending on culture. a thousand years ago people who were 11 and younger got married and were perfectly capable of understanding what that meant because of the way they were raised. There are very few cultures still in existence that an 11 year old could get married, but i was just using an example. Not all culturesare the same. |

| That is precisely why we SHOULDN'T have an international age of consent. No one would agree on it.Some tribal folk in Africa will say that it should be 13.Prudes in the mid-west of the US will say 21.Because the idea of "age of consent" is such a social construct, it's best left to individual cultures to determine. |

| it's hard because you need to consider the country's pace of progressing, if it's an ageing population or what.i mean if a small country like mine and they allow sex under 18, and these young idiots doesn't know the word "condom", they might be the cause of a baby boom you know which will affect the country's economy.you need to consider factors ya know. |

| The age of consent in Japan is 13...The age of consent in the US varries from state to state... county to county... Though in general the age is 18...People from across the world need to face differnet chalanges and life styles then 'we' do... No matter who 'we' is...A girl in Africa takes on the responsibilities of a "Woman" much eairler then they do in the US... So the age of consent is younger there...Not because their culture is that different... just that their girls and women reach 'maturity' eairler there...If we went on "Maturity" then in the US the age of consent would be at about 30... I don't see how there can be an International age of Consent... We are all just too different depending on culture and life style. |

| no. different cultures mature at different ages. a kid in poverty at the age of 14 can be as mature as a 30 year old here in america. |
