They are always volunteering to cook or bring a dish for the holidays, because they honestly think they can cook. However, in the back of your mind you think otherwise – and it’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. I have an aunt like that. She is a caterer and she thinks her speciality is baking wedding cakes, pastries, etc. Her sisters (my aunts) praise her on her baking skills, but me, my mom and several others agree that her baked goods are terrible. They lack texture and quality. They don’t have a nice appearance to them either. Also, this same aunt thinks she is a pro and cooking soulfood, but her expertise is in gourmet foods. Everytime we have a family dinner, especially a holiday dinner, she feels that she is the one who should do all the baking. She actually gets jealous when other people bring baked goods and says they aren’t good and they aren’t from scratch like hers – but they taste better than hers.

my aunt always brings us a chicken(usually stuffed and baked) for christmas.. although mom has warned us to be nice to her, we can't help grimacing at the half-cooked and tortured chicken, with raw garlic stuffed up its butt.

nope, but I have a funny story about a bad cook who became a phenomenal cook. When my oldest sister was a lot younger, she made macaroni and cheese for supper. We didn't have any milk, so she used double the butter instead. I barfed it all back up that night. We called it grease-ball stew...LOLnow, however, she is an incredible cook. She has travelled all over the world and learned to cook all kinds of regional dishes. I LOVE her cooking.EDIT - I also have an aunt who used to bring stewed dandelion greens to family dinners and my mom made us eat them, "just to be polite" EWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Had a friend like that - she served some of the most horrible food I've ever tasted. But I knew it was in poor taste to show up for dinner at her house with my own lunch box. |

A good cook is someone that realizes not everything you make will turn out. I like to think I am a good cook...but there are some dishes I make that are just bad. I do have a few people around me that think they can cook and their stuff is really awful. I really like having people be honest with me about my cooking. If you don't like it tell me so I can make it better next time (that's how you learn) But I know most people hate that. There isn't much you can do with a person like that. It's really annoying...You can always say you are on a diet haha
