My wife has a very artistic eye, she can really take good pictures, but she does not understand all of the photography lingo. She plans on taking a night class at our local JC when finances and time permit. But until then she needs to come to speed on a lot of the specific terminology. We were thinking of an inexpensive solution for the time being. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

http://www.starephotography.com/I do not like websites that "scream" at me. That might be an indication that they are overcompensating for something.I will check the BBB.Edit --- 12:54 PM 01/03/2008Stare Photography is not recorded at BBB. Research and take your time. Brooks and NYIP are other online courses you might look at.

Okay, it is good that she will be attending a night class. There are two things she can do right now. Call the instructor and find out the title of the text they use for the class and then buy a used copy of it and start reading (I know, boring)Then with camera in hand, (35mm SLR .. Nikon or Canon) play with all the settings and get used to where they are and which direction they move and what the ranges are.The reason I suggest Nikon and Canon cameras is because as an instructor I know we know more about those two cameras just because they are what the pros use and most of the photo instructors have worked at one time or another as a pro. In addition, if any of our students go pro, they will already have the start of a pro system. For learning the lingo and a lot of specific lingo, have her go to this link and learn as much as she can.A place to start:http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/howto.htmhttp://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htmEverything else:http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech.htmAnd for a good resource of what the pros are doing:http://www.blackbook.com

Try classes online at betterphoto.com The classes are relatively inexpensive and you can learn alot in a short amount of time. I took several of the classes and learned so much! Good luck!
