In July, we are having our tropical theme engagement party decorated in our wedding colors which are fuschia, tangerine, and ivory. Since the colors are so bright and festive, we are having it on Saturday afternoon outdoors under a tent with about 15-20 guests. My questions are, what are some ways to decorate for the event and what type of foods should we serve? Perhaps a BBQ? Do we have to provide the guests with favors to take home? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer!

I wouldn't think that you had to have favors.. but you could go to walmart or even a craft store and get leis for everyone.. they are pretty inexpensive! Plus, at some places you can find single colored leis and you may be able to find one in a tangerine color!! That would be cute, plus everytime they saw that they would remember what a fun time they had at your engagement party!! congratulations!!i think bbq would be perfect!! |

sounds fun! I would definitely do a BBQ....make some shish kabobs, have tropical fruit like pineapple/mango even some watermelon (it is July!), and your typical bbq sides. To decorate, include your bright colors in streamers/balloons/tableclothes, and you could even make decorations like palm trees. I would keep it simple since it is just the engagement party, but you have a great theme for it and finding things for it in the spring/summer will be easy. You don't necessarily have to provide favors, but if you really wanted to you could. I don't have any ideas for them though. have fun and congrats!!!

use tiki torches and it will help to prevent mosquitoes. Target always has summer supplies with the colors you have choosen. No need for a favor.

I'm using fuschia too. You can always do paper lanterns.http://weddings.theknot.com/odb/themes/realweddings/detailview.aspx?id=6363&type=3&colors=Green&pageIndex=7BBQ sounds great! Or you can do finger foods like melon balls, finger sandwiches, cheese platters, antipasto tray, etc. if it makes it easier since BBQ will have to be hot.
