Hello. Im having a very small wedding ceremony (8 ppl present) in a catholic church. I talked to the music director today and she gave me the option of a organist AND a singer or she knew a guy who played guitar and sang. Im thinking the guitarist/singer would be a much better option to cut down costs, but just wondering how a guitar would sound during a wedding ceremony as opposed to the traditional organ. Has anyone witnessed a guitar at a wedding? Does it sound just as nice/appropriate as an organ?THANKS

I would go with the guitarist. It is a small wedding so you don't want to overwhelm everyone with a blaring organ. If he is a classic guitarist then it will be absolutely beautiful.

Well, I think that it would be nice for the guitar singer! More for your money and better memories of the wedding!

I'd go and listen to the guitar player or get some references from him of other weddings he's done. I prefer piano and string quartets for weddings, although the bride entering to organ music is always very powerful!

I heard a guitarist once, and he sounded good. However, I think it would depend on the acoustics in the building. A big, echoy building may make it inaudiable, whereas the organ has been built for that building. If it's a small place, the guitar may make the ceremony more intimate.

It really just depends on what YOU like. Do you prefer the sound of an organ or a guitar?

i'll say. especially a nicely amplified acoustic. yeah, i've gone to weddings with guitarists, works really well in small weddings. my brother has played guitar and sang at several weddings. it's a lovely touch, i believe it adds to the feeling of intimacy at small weddings rather than detracting from the solemnity.you could also look for a keyboardist, and have them accompany if you want organ sound without the organ. not usually that hard to find musicians willing ready and able to play at weddings. most musicians are gig hungry, keep it simple and it won't break your wallet. some bands do wedding gigs as well. invite them to the reception if you want to be nice-musicians like free food as much as any and more than many. hungry for more than gigs-they don't get a chance to sample fancy nibbles very often as a rule.addendum from my brother: considered a wind instrument solo? say a saxophone?note to hoozlefr...the world is rushing toward oblivion yet here you are answering this question? kindly neuter or spay *yourself *to protect the world from your genetic material and your genetic material from yourself. a wedding, a marriage covenant, is a stand against the chaos and oblivion. it's a choice to form a bulwark against the breakdown you seem so concerned about, and should be celebrated, not trivialized.

I've heard a guitar at a wedding and it sounded really pretty. They kept the songs simple so it was a nice touch. If you are having that small of a wedding, an organ might be a little much. I think the guitar is a great alternative.
