We are only inviting parents and siblings as we are saving for a house but I feel like we're being tight. It makes sense not to spend £1000's but are there any tips for making it feel like a special day? Reception ideas etc?

We wanted our wedding day to be just myself and my partner and two witnesses with a small celebration on another day. However, we upset so many people who wanted to share in our happiness that we have decided to have a civil wedding which anyone can attend with an open invitation "party" later. We haven't spent a lot of money, not because we can't but because we don't want to. Our wedding will come in at well under £1000 and that is including nearly half of that for food and drinks for the "party".

I got married 7 years ago and ours was very small but we didn't skimp I guess you could say, it was outside in a park under the trees with the guests standing in a circle around us. I had my maid of honor and the best man. We had our close friends about 30 people and both of our families. We basically cooked everything ourselves and brought our own music, we had a beautiful cake, the unity candle, the flowers, tons of food, I made all the table decorations myself, decorated the park with my son, my father in law brought the refreshments, we had pop, beer, wine, water, even champagne for us, we put disposable cameras on the tables and we had a photograhper as well and we honestly ended up with tons of awesome pictures that I would never have gotten from a professional from guests and family members at the wedding and I just love my wedding album that is filled with snapshots of everyone that was there! We did everything you would normally do just at a fraction of the cost! Ours cost with food, cake, music, cameras, etc., about 1000.00 and I would not have changed a thing about that day! Good luck!!
