It was a stonewashed blue, but where the bleach splashed it turned rust colored. I thought about soaking the sweatshirt they dabbing the spots with blue food color. Will that make it worse? Does anyone have any ideas? I got it in Kauai when we were they for our son's wedding. It wasn't cheap! Thanks.

Oh boy.No matter what you do to it, it won't look good. You may have to bleach it all before you re-dye it with cloth dye. Or do the same kind of splash on the other side to even it out?I'm not sure what this sweatshirt really looks like. You may just have to forget about it. And lay it to rest! Smile

Don't use food coloring on clothes. It washes of with water and can stain-it also might not be the right blue and makes the stain more obvious (bad pillow case incident). Try Rit dye in a color similar to your sweater. If doesn't come out right, you might have to buy a new sweater.

It seems that a rust colored spot and blue dye is going to give you a purple spot at best. Anything is worth a try but commercial dyes are also fairly weak so people won't sue the company. You many want to take it to a good cleaning company that sends stuff out to be professionally dyed. They would know who dyes different materials.

You might be able to dye it with Rit or other dye made especially for fabric, but if you have a design on your sweatshirt it might be ruined. Bleach stains are permanent.I can't think of a way to dye sections of the shirt because you won't be able to match the dye-lot perfectly. If the splatter isn't too large, could something like this work?I once got a hole on the shoulder of a favorite sweatshirt when I caught it on a nail. I made a patch to cover it. I embroidered a couple of little flowers on the patch with my sewing machine and stitched the words HOLE COVER right in the middle of the patch. I got lots of compliments. I was furious with myself when I got the hole because like your shirt, mine was a memento of a special occasion. Good luck finding a solution.

Cut it up for dust cloths. There is no way to save it.

Im not sure food color will take , it may just fade at wash time. Wet shirt first. Spread out. Remmember die may go into under layer also so protect that part. Mix up Rit color die with salt and gentle apply. with cotton balls. Test first. on something simulair to get color close possible.. after it sets awhile then need rince and dry. and see if needs more. Good luck. *mamatx
