| I'm new to photography. How do I take good picture of stars and moon at night. I seen other people's picture and it looks amazing. What do I mess with in manual? Like ISO, shutter speed, etc. |

| you need a filter, longer exposure time, and a pod so it wont move |

| A tripod is mandatory unless you just place your camera on its back pointing straight up.Your camera must have a Manual Mode and either a "T" or "B" shutter setting so you can hold the shutter open for long periods of time. It must accept a cable release.Visit fotosharp.com and buy their Day & Night Exposure Guide. Its an invaluable tool. |

| You are asking two different questions here. Taking pictures of stars is very different from taking pictures of the moon. The moon is like any other sunlit object, and you can use a much faster shutter speed than you think. If sunlight in daytime is a "sunny 16", the the moon is about a "moony 11". The stars require timed exposure, and a equatorial mount tracking device to keep them from forming star trails. To get the color you see in the astronomy magazines requires long exposures, long lenses, and lots of know how. Or you can plan to shoot star trails, where the stars "revolve" around an axis in the sky. Either one requires a good tripod and manual exposure. Use the lowest ISO and a middle aperture for the moon, and bracket your exposure. Be sure to dress warmly. You might want to have a look at the Geminid Meteors this weekend, maybe you can capture some meteor trails. |

| Ara57 gave a brilliant answer, and I will agree. The most important device is one that will counteract the movement of the earth during an exposure that could last up to 4 hours. In addition to having a means to hold the shutter open that long, you must also ensure you have a steady supply of power for such a long exposure, like an AC power pack connected to the camera. |

| Put your camera on a tripod. Point it. Open the lens and leave it open for 3-4 minutes. |

| Thats not an easy question, there are alot of things you can do, the library would be a good place to start. Also try OrionTelescopes.com, or www.Astronomy.com ,for products. Good luck. Stay away from Bright Lights.... |
