I'm just wondering how long it took you to set up your decorations for your ceremony and your reception. If you could tell me a basic idea of what all you had and how many people were setting it up I'd really appreciate it!There's a slight argument that I've planned too much for too little. We will have 2/3 hours for decorating.

I had my wedding at a brewery, and we had people setting up 1 to 1 1/2 hours beforehand.Honestly, you'll want to err on the side of too much time. If you're having a lot, probably appoint one person to chair and have them decide how many people they need. 2 to 3 hours is what it takes to set up an entire dining room for a wedding, btw. Now granted those are professionals, but unless you've got something seriously complicated, I wouldn't worry about it.

We had to set up the guestbook, place cards (about 70), table cards (15), centerpieces (15 total, they were orchids in a bud vase), flower petals running down aisle and some occasional pieces. oh yeah and lighting candles.I think it took a whopping 20 minutes to do.Pics so you know complexityhttp://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h149/ljeannie/n9321498_44728383_8404.jpghttp://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h149/ljeannie/untitled1.jpgthere were 6 bridesmaids helping, my mom and stepmom, and me directing

Sorry, I have no idea how much time it takes, but wanted to tell jlunchbox that her tables were beautiful. Orchids are my favorite!Recruit those buddies of yours! Plan it out, give everyone a specific job, and unless you are hanging things from the ceiling, I bet you can do it in around 1 or 2 hours. I have decorated an entire church for Christmas in 3 hours with 3 helpers.Best of luck to you!

Our location only allows us one hour... I'm worried about that. I would prefer at least 2. I'm also worried that I won't get to see it before hand. I'm very particular. I'd be down there setting up myself if I could!

I'd say 2-3 hours sounds about right. That's how long it took us to do our hall. We had to rearrange tables, set up the linens and centerpieces plus we also had some wall decorations. There was 6 of us working on it. Fortunately we had the night before to do everything, which made it easier. As for the ceremony we didn't do any decorations so I can't say how long that would take but I have seen it done in less than 20 minutes.

depends on how many people are helping and what kind of help you have... if you have a lot of good people that know what they need to do, and do it well... then 2/3 hours should be fine - if you have a bunch of people that have never decorated anything in their lives coming to help set-up you will be a stressed out mess for your wedding!!! Take my advice (from a do it yourself bride Jan 2007) pay someone to do it for you... and enjoy your wedding... trust me its worth every penny!!!

Rule of thumb, ceremony site first, then appetizer area if your guests won't be heading right to reception then your guest tables/ reception area. First things first. Have at least one person co-ordinating with check lists of all needed items. Vehicles to transport items. Some snacks to keep helpers from getting cranky. Make sure you have tape, scissors, band aids, bottled water etc. We had 6 people set up chairs, tables, table clothes, set the tables, beverage tables, cake table and buffet tables and place the centerpieces for 150 in three hours.
