First of all I am looking for something that I can just pick up and take with me. The A640 would be a suitable size, I wouldnt want to go any bigger.I will be taking pictures on vacations, parties, my cousin's wedding is coming up, and just outdoors and around the house I guess. The SD800IS has image stablizer. Is that a necessary function? Is it worth substituting more mp for IS?Well any input would be great. Thank YouHere are my choices:http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_a640%2Ccanon_sd900%2Ccanon_sd800is&show=all

sd800, compact sleek beautiful design. great photos, and image stabilizer helps a lot, little movements dont make a big problem.

These are some great choices! I own the SD900, bought the SD700-IS for my daughter's birthday, my son owns the A620 and my brother owns the A630. I have related experience, then, with each camera.I'd consider the SD700-IS over the SD800-IS, as it has a bit more zoom. The difference on the wide angle end is negligible. "IS" is for real, but it is also more necessary on these smaller cameras than on a bigger camera. I don't know why, but they just seem harder to hold still. There's not as much to grab onto.Among these three, though, I think the A640 is the better camera. You've read the reviews, so I won't bore you with all that, but the A640 gives you more telephoto than the others you've picked. (It matches the SD700-IS, though.) It has a larger sensor than the SD800 or SD700. It uses commonly available "AA" batteries, so you won't be stuck if yours die in the boondocks. Look at the user stars in the link you sent out. THEY tell the story.I chose the SD900 for myself, because I own Nikon sSLR's and I demand good image quality, but I also get tired of carrying an SLR everywhere, so I was in the market for a pocket camera. If I was buying one of these as my main camera, I'd buy the A640.
