im trying to plan my parents 25th wedding anniversary surprise party, but idk if its a good idea or not. it would only be them, me and my brothers, and maybe 20 friends, but probably less. idk where we can have it for sure...maybe at our neighborhood clubhouse thing, but otherwise at the houseand idk if its stupid cuz none of the ppl who were in their wedding will be there, these are just friends from around here, since we moved away from where they got married. so...basically my question is, is this a stupid idea? i mean im sure they will enjoy, i just dont know how much i can spend, where it will be, if their friends will even be able to come (I dont have that much time! maybe a month=/) so please help me!!thanks

It's a great idea! It doesn't matter if the original wedding guests are there - this is a celebration! Don't sweat these details - make it fun and memorable for THEM. Are they reallly going to notice that Stu from college didn't show up? NO!

Even if you did a really small get together with some drinks and appetizers, I know it would mean a great deal to your parents.

For one the money is your biggest issue. Have it at you house. Try for a BBQ they run pretty cheap. Set a date know for the party then talk to your neighbors to see if they are availble for that weekend instead of waiting summer days get booked up fast(just remind everyone it is a suprise) If anyone ask can they bring anything tell them to bring a food item it will help with cost

this is a very special gift for them! Go for it! See about the clubhouse, but if that doesn't work you can always have it at a banquet hall at a golf course. For just your family and 20 friends it shouldn't be too expensive for the catering, and they would decorate for you (in most cases). You need to figure out your budget first, then call around to different places to have it and see what kind of deals they can give you. Call up their friends and see if they would come (before you spend money on invitations/postage). If you REALLY want to do this, you can always have the party after their anniversery to give you moe time to plan.

You're showing a lot of love, baby. Keep it simple. It's just about barbeque season, isn't it? A nice cake, a few CDs full of music from the 82-84 era (check the library). Invite some of their "special friends" from that time. They probably can't make it but maybe they'll send cards. In fact, maybe ask them to make videos and send other greetings to read at the party. If it's on a weekend most phone plans are free and maybe some phoned-in greetings.

You should totally do it. Don't worry about getting caught up in the details. Work with your parents new friends & see if people can do a pot luck. In fact, make it an 80's theme party!!! People will love getting into the act of having to go search for some neon colored clothes. It'll be fun. Play 80's music & get some funky 80's art/posters from a thrift store. It doesn't have to cost a lot either. You could even have a door prize for the funniest 80's costume. The prize could be inexpensive too - candy or a gift card. People just LOVE to compete.

Hi. You are really sweet.First of all.....it's not a stupid idea....it's a VERY NICE idea!We did the same things (exactly!) for my parent's 25th. We planned a surprise. Don't worry that it's just neighbors and friends. We didn't have anyone from the actual "wedding" at my parents' party either.....that's just the way these things are.Second....is there anyone to help you? You will need help even if you are planning something small. Do you have aunts or uncles? What about a neighbor? Possibly enlist the help of an adult (or two!)Yes, you will need to get busy. A month is not much time.I like the idea of having it at the neighborhood clubhouse. Is there a charge to use this? If so, then possibly just plan it for your own house. That is what we did....had it right at my parents' house, without them even catching on! If you think it's going to be too much with food and drinks (money wise), possibly you can get the neighbors to "bring a dish" kind of thing. That is what we did. Do your brothers have any money? What about you? You could plan something simple like appetizers and desserts in the afternoon. OR....if you want a dinner, then plan something really simple....like a BBQ. Again, I would see if you can enlist the help of a neighbor or two. You first need to decide on a date and time so you can get invitations out. Why not just make something up on the computer and print them off on nice paper? You can buy a package of nice paper at Walmart, Target, etc. Then.....whatever time you decide on....then you can decide what you want to serve. If you want to do simple "finger foods" and desserts, then possibly have the party in the afternoon from 2-5 p.m. or something like that. If you want to serve more of a dinner, then you can plan the party from 5-8 p.m.Good luck! You are very sweet.
