My cousin is getting married in two weeks and my husband and I are going just as guests. I ahave a black knee length halter dress and was going to wear black heels. My husband is going to wear a black suit with a royal blue shirt under the jacket. I was just curious to see if black is appropriate attire for something like this. I have never been to a wedding before so I wasn't sure. And from what I have been finding out, noone else is really going to be all dressed up.. Also it is a church wedding.Although I know most everyone else isn't going all out on dressing up, I feel it is customary to dress nice for a church wedding. I don't care if we are the only ones doing it. It is out of respect.

If it is an evening wedding, I don't see a problem with it - in fact, I've seen it alot. Wear what you are comfortable with - I think both of you will look lovely. I also agree about the church part.

It's fine, especially when paired with another brighter color. The first poster was right, it's worse to show up wearing white.

Yes, black is fine. The last 5 wedding I've attended, I've worn black. I have not been spoken about or looked at negatively at any of those events.Black for cocktail dresses and evening wear is very common and acceptable now. Almost every women has a little black dress in their closet. So, it's understand to wear it to a wedding.Go with the black halter dress, it's seems fine.Anyone that has an issue with black is living in the dark ages. Black is just a color and does not mean you oppose a marriage.

The old saying that black is only for funerals is so out of date. You can never go wrong with a little black dress. Well I guess you can if the two hags (I mean sisters) of the bride go out and buy the same black dress and then act like they're in mourning all night, that is until they get hammered and then they get into a scrap over the bridal bouquet! Sorry, just a little anecdote I thought you might find funny! Yes this actually happened at my brothers wedding (the ugly sisters of the bride are true withches). That is the only time I've seen black done in bad taste! You and your husband will look great and good on you for knowing it is appropriate to dress up for a church wedding! Have fun!

Black is a flattering colour for the majority of women and I think that as long as it's not head - to - toe black like some Italian widow then it's fine. Break it up with some coloured accessories and you will look fab.

Wearing black to weddings is classy. Your husband and you will look great. And don't worry about looking too formal - the length of your dress and the royal blue shirt on your husband will tone down your look.

Absolutely. It's ashame that no one else is going to be dressed up, because I think that not dressing up for a wedding is showing a lack of respect for the occassion.
