YA folks, I need some help. I'm DIY'ing as much as I can for our wedding and I've gotten a couple 50% off coupons for the craft store and want to make the wisest purchases possible with them.We aren't DIY'ing the dress, shoes, DJ, photographer or the reception dinner. We'll be doing minimal flowers (bouquets & bouts only) but dealing with a florist for those.Nearly everything else is DIY if I can. . . Here is what I already have:Guest bookCenterpiecesFavorsTulle to wrap favorsVeilDIY Invites, including response cards, envelopes & ribbon and ribbon hole punch to dress them upStamp & Ink, good paper cutter & corner punch for 'dressing up' save-the datesNeed:Paper for Save-the-dateRibbon for favorsPaper for making "thank you" tags for the favorsAnything you can suggest that I'm missing?Engagement announcements are done. BM gifts bought.Just looking for your thoughts/input on what else I might need.THANKS!!!Do I really need to blow alot of money on a fancy pen for the guestbook? Isn't a normal pen Ok?For the guestbook, I actually found one at Michael's crafts that is $19.99 and I used a 50% off coupon.I couldn't buy all the supplies and make one for only ten bucks so I bought that.I've been comparing "how much would it cost to make this" versus "how much will it cost to buy it outright or buy it with 50% off coupon" and I go with whichever is less expensive!i did forget place cards!!For the cake - I am so very very lucky. My cousins have offered to buy it as our wedding gift to us.We were planning on going to a good local bakery, but they would like us to try to use Charm City Cakes (the Duff guy on Food Networks "Ace Of Cakes" show): http://www.charmcitycakes.com/

Something to put the cards in, maybe? For the pen, you can make one of these for really cheap.http://www.familycorner.com/homegarden/crafts/4.shtmlI made one for my cousin's wedding using fake calla lillies and it was so cute. We also made a card box using round hat boxes all stacked up to look like a wdding cake. Sprayed it white and decorated with ribbon and silk flowers to match. http://www.weddingaccents.com/accessories/lr-mb705-wedding-card-box.htm

I can't see anything you're missing off the top of my head. And to answer your last question, I would suggest "dressing up" a regular pen, but all you would need for that would be some pretty ribbon, so no you don't have to go buy a fancy pen for your guest book. Actually I'd like to know what your plan is for your guest book, since I don't really want to buy one either, I'd rather make it myself.

I like the idea of a fancy pen. In fact you can often purchase them with your guest book. I bought a kit at Joann's and it included the guestbook, pen, toasting glasses, and the cake cutter all for 50 bucks. I had a 40% off coupon so I got it pretty cheap.

If you are going to make any kind of paper crafts, you are going to want to invest in a wide (12 inch) paper cutter so you can cut straight lines. They run about $20.Also for paper crafts, use Scotch photo splits to hold two layers together. You can use glue stick in addition to these for extra hold (maybe for the save the date cards). Glue stick doesn't hold well enough on it's own for the things that will be handles. If you like doing quilting or anything with fabric, when you make your veil, buy a rotary cutter and mat. You'll get a nice clean edge. But it may be too expensive to buy just for one use.For a non-traditional guest book, you can cut 4x6 pieces of cardstock, buy some stickers to jazz them up and leave pens out so people can write messages on them, then afterwards put them in a photo album.

I didn't see placecards or table numbers listed. Not sure if you want them.

Are you having anything for people to "toss" at you? We made paper cones, filled them with rose petals for people to toss at us after the ceremony.

What about your cake? I got mine at a grocery store bakery, 3 tier enough to feed 90+ for $100.

Don't forget a cake knife/server set. You can get nice ones of these at Michael's or Jo-Ann's. Also, keep in mind that a lot of those craft stores will accept competitor's coupons, so if one store doesn't have what you want but that's where your coupon is to, check a competitor!

Where and How to Start?
There’s so much to do, it can be mind-numbing. Don’t worry. I planned and held my first wedding in two months and my second wedding in three months. If you have the luxury of a year or more, feel lucky!
Wedding Invitation
Ideally, invitations should be mailed out 6-8 weeks before the big day to give guests time to make arrangements to attend and RSVP back to you.
Wedding Attire
Where I come from, buying a tuxedo is virtually unheard of. Renting is probably the way to go to realize the ultimate savings on the groom’s attire.
Wedding Flowers
Cheap doesn't mean that your wedding flowers can't be beautiful. All flowers are lovely no matter what they cost.
Wedding Ceremony Decoration
Most wedding ceremonies are short and sweet, so why spend a majority...
Wedding Music
Music for your wedding ceremony could consist of live or recorded performances.
Wedding Photography
Pictures are priceless, and you want to be sure you have plenty of good pictures of your special day.
Wedding Favors
Some brides don’t like the idea of giving gifts to her guests, but we think it’s a nice gesture as a thank you...
Wedding Food
Wedding food can take a huge chunk out of your wedding budget.
Wedding Cake
Your wedding cake is the centerpiece of the reception. It is a scrumptious dessert as well as part of a tradition
Wedding Party
The question of whether or not to serve alcohol at your wedding is one that can cause dissension in the ranks of family.
