My fiance' and I want to get married on the beach at sunset on Valentines Day. I have no idea how to book it as my loaction. How would I do that? (we are in south west florida) Just little info... This is NOT a big wedding (15 people max) I am not interested in contacting hotels because they are too expensive. A friend is a notary so she will be doing the ceremony. There is no reception to follow (just dinner at parents house). All I need is to find out how to get a spot on the beach. Thanks.

You need to contact the town where the location is that you want, and find out whether any permits, etc are required, then go from there. You won't have the whole beach to yourselves, as happens when you marry in a public place. It is likely that passersby will stop and watch the proceedings--which I truly think adds to the overall appeal of this type of wedding.

If you Google: Beach weddings in Southwest Florida; it gives you many different links. Some of them are hotel packages, but if you look around, you may just find beach sites only.Congratulations & good luck!!

On a public beach you can just go out there & start gettting married, but you won't be able to guarantee that there's not a fraternity party planning to set up a volleyball net 20 feet away. You might want to look into designated state or county parks that might have a reservation policy.Telephone the town hall and ask them the guidelines. Lots of Florida beaches spread thru several towns, so you might want to check with more than one, if your chosen location could be shifted a few blocks to a different town.

You need to call City Hall. They will direct you to the correct department to get a permit, usually Parks and Recreation. How much the permit will be depends on the area. You will need to check with them as well to see if you are even allowed on the beach at that time. Some of the beaches here don't allow that because the tide is high, currents are strong, and it's impossible to find someone drowning in the dark (saftey issue). You cannot book a specific "spot" on the beach since you want a public one. They are first come, first served. You will also not be able to boot other people from the beach if they want to set up their blankets or whatever 30 yards away....so keep that in mind when you choose this as how you want your ceremony. You can try to have the wedding without a permit, but trust me, the patrol is going to know you are fixing to hold a wedding unless you are just walking up doing it and bolting. They have every right to bust up your ceremony and send you packing if they want to..and usually will. You will also get fined. If you are willing to take that risk you don't have to do anything.

Look up the city's Parks and Recreation Dept. phone # and call. They are in charge of booking. Good luck and God Bless.

so long as it isn't a privately owned beach (entrance), you wouldn't need to book the beach. there is enough beach for everyone. just scout out your location before hand. i would say days or maybe a week before, so that you can see where the best sunset viewing is. it does change with the seasons. and then have someone go a bit earlier than the wedding party. don't be ugly if other people want to witness your big day. people love weddings and nothing is so romantic as getting married on the beach. i would keep the gown very simple though. perhaps like a white sundress and barefeet. i attended a very small/casual wedding in hawaii on the beach. it was wonderful. the groom wore shorts and a white aloha shirt. the bride wore a white sundress. the guests wore mostly shorts and aloha shirts or sundresses. someone had carried a couple of folding tables with a small cake, a few bottles of wine/juice, and utensils. it was beautiful without all of the pressure of planning a monstrous event.an old man that i knew in hawaii went to the beach to watch a wedding. he didn't know the couple. but he told me that he had never been to a beach wedding and wanted to see one. that's why i said to be kind to "spectators." they just want to share in the joy.congratulations and best of luck.

Hi Jen and congratulations on your upcoming wedding! It's really easy!! Most beaches are public. You need to call the CITY or COUNTY office where the beach is located. (I would start with the city office first.) Ask them about their policies on beach weddings and if there is a fee, if any.Good luck!

Awww, sounds like my wedding! Congrats! Okay, mine was in Cabo San Lucas and I went through a wedding planner who set up having the judge on the beach and also the authority for us to do it, sooooo - I would try this, contact the City Hall in the town you want to get married and see what you can find out from them. You know, our wedding planner gave us exactly what you want/and she didn't charge an arm and a leg - really - I would also suggest emailing a wedding planner in the town you want to get married in - you know, I think a really good wedding planner wouldn't let the size dictate whether or not they would take on your project.

Go on the website for the city that the beach is in. For us, in San Diego, it was a few hundred dollars and we both had to be present to sign a form. Remember, if it is a public beach there is no way to guarantee the space or keep others away...you just have to go early and set-up your items. In Februaruy it should be great, you won't have the summer crowds!
