I am a 13 year old girl who is in fact a muslim.My mother has told me that those who don't listen to music are going to be a higher level in heaven then those who do. I don't know if thats true but...She used to listen to indian/pakistani music. Then stopped. She decided to change her ways and instead of listening to sharu khan(idk that many singers lol ) she listens to suras and stuff. But we found their is islamic music. its good cuz it makes people attracted to it , but its bad cuz it still is music.I'm just so confused are we allowed to listen to any kind of music?Islamic or not?Are we allowed to dance???Because people do at wedding. my mom said people can do it for weddings cuz it expresses joy and happyness. bu8t my mom still tells me not to..........To OpsiHuh????????/

To the other posters: HELLO?!! This asker is a CHILD. Have some decency and lay off with the vulgar and violent responses. I'm just disgusted by this display :(Suma, I don't know the answers to your questions but i don't think this is a good place for you to be right now. I think you should speak to your parents or maybe an older sibling about your confusion.

All musical instruments are haram...except daff, which is a one sided drum. Thats all I know. Go to www.islamqa.com and look it up for all the details.

As-salamu alaikum,Islamic music is okay. We need to be concerned about what Allah says is right or not right. Islamic music which doesn't use musical instruments which are haram (unlawful) is good. There is some Islamic music which is good because it reminds us about Allah. There is a Brithish Muslim brother named Sami Yusef who has Islamic music. Some of it is in fact dua ( supplication) to Allah..such as "Hasbi Allah" (I depend upon Allah) and "Supplication".Dancing is allowed as long as it isn't in public or amongst men who are not muharram.I am curious why does your mother say what she says about Islamic music? Is there an aya in The Qur'an or a hadith (saying)of Prophet Muhammad about it.Sister, please write to me about any questions that you might have. It is good that you are curious and are asking questions about things that are confusing you. We are all accountable in front of Allah for what we do or don't do. Continue in your search for knowledge, but at the same time respect your mother. She sounds like a Muslim sister who is trying to do what is right ...from what you have said about her.The more knowledge that we have about Islam the easier it will be to practise it.May Allah be with you;

For us (my wife & myself are Muslims), we are in the opinion that music is ok. As long as you would not carried away until you forget to pray or forget God, or go for heavy metal rock & roll & take drugs & all. Allah love those who are moderate. If you love that music & make you feel good, say thank to Allah or say Alhamdulillah in your heart.
