I'm not having the traditional wedding or reception, im having a dinner at a restaurant where i'll be having a small ceremony in a private room... there will be no dancing or music and its a group of less than 50 people... 3/4 are hispanic, the rest are american, what type of games can i possibly play that will bring everyone together? I wanted to include prizes like visa gift cards... any ideas?

see if you can rent shuffleboard. that's a great game that anyone can play. you don't stand with your partner, you stand with your opponent so people will get to know each other.people are idiotic. clearly you don't care if it's "normal" to have games or not...i've never been to a wedding where there were games, but if you get something where not everyone *has* to participate, (that's why I suggested shuffleboard, it's quiet), it could be fun.just let people mingle if they want, let people play games if they want, don't make annoying announcements about the games, let it spread by word of mouth, it will be fine, do what you want to do.

No. Please, no. Games are for bridal showers. They have no place at a wedding reception. One of the most pleasant receptions I've ever attended was held immediately following the ceremony in the church hall. The hall was nicely decorated. There was delicious food. There was good conversation with friends. Our hosts had a harpist playing quiet background music during the reception. There were plenty of chairs, so we didn't have to stand the whole time. It was just pleasant. There were none of these games you mention. Just good food, enjoyable music, and pleasant conversation with friends. I vote for keeping it simple. Make sure your guests are comfortable, and greet as many people as you can. That's all that is really necessary.Dancing is not necessary. Games are not necessary. Hire someone to play quiet music . . . one piano or one harp or one acoustic guitar or one flute would be all that is necessary. Please skip the distracting games. The focus of the day should remain on bride and groom. Bride and groom are the ones people are coming there to see.

ooohh - nice ideaVegas/Casino theme? have different tables with games (depending on how many guests you have you can't all play the same game at the same time) or if you want to keep the whole dinner thing and all play at the same time:BINGO - (you will have to make your own bingo cards - stuff related to you - things you like)Battle of the Sexes - the board game - (you will just have to adapt it) - make each table a team Charades - again - each table a teambut again - this all depends on how many guests you have and if children are present (it'll be hard to have these games go on with kids runnning around)I vote no games - but these are some ideastry to keep it elegant? ...but then again....this is YOUR weddinggood luck

No, no a thousand times no, no games at a reception. You don't need dancing, just some background music and good food. Everyone will visit with people they don't see much, and get to know new people. If you must, Twister. It will be fun seeing all the guests with their butts in the air. Yes I am being sarcastic. NO games.

huh. you wont have enuf room for a game, dear. and you wont get their attention or their cooperation. i'm just saying. people do not go to a wedding reception to win prizes. they just dont, it is about you. how about going around the room and everyone relates a favorite memory of you and or your groom. that could be fun and relevant to the event.

Hi and congratulations!I just LOVE small weddings. What you have chosen sounds perfect!I must agree with the others...DO NOT play games. It really is a nice thought (and your prizes sound great)...but games are for bridal/baby showers and for kids birthday parties. This is your wedding. A couple of options:~ You could always bring in an ipod (or an old fashioned CD player) and simply play soft music during your dinner.~ What about hiring a harpist, a guitarist, violinst, piano player (they do make portable pianos) to come in an play some music.~ OR...simply don't have music!! My 3 favorite weddings that I have attened all did not have music! ~ Spend your money instead on elegant table centerpiece..some flowers and candles. ~ Simply have your ceremony, have your dinner, do some toasts, cut the cake and your done! Make sure that you and your groom take the time to sit and really visit with your guests. That's what people like (at least I do!)~ Maybe one alternative idea would be to get a DVD made of the two of you. Many places do this. You supply pictures of the two of you from infancy on up to the present day. The pictures are put on a DVD with music playing in the backgound. It's made to look like a book...pages turning. Then you cold show this after the dinner. Of course, you would need to bring in a dvd player and have a screen, etc.~ Another alterative would be to do the same thing...but NOT on the DVD. Simply bring in the pictures and display them on a table. Put them all in different frames and display them. This gives your guests something to look at....maybe during the time you are visiting with others or having some pictures taken.~ DO make sure that you have a photographer to capture your day. Get a "group" photo taken also!Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful wedding!

I don't know what it is with all of these people telling you not to have games. It's your wedding and you can do whatever you want. I think having games is a fun idea. Here are some websites with a list of a lot of reception games:http://www.weddingclipart.com/guide/wedding-receptions/wedding-reception-games.htmlhttp://www.torontobrides.com/wedding_games_jj.phpCongratulations with your wedding. Don't let these people try to convince you to not do your wedding the way you want.
