First of all - watch Bridezilla for a few days and think about whether or not you can put up with the spoiled littled prima donna's you will be working with. Most brides are fun - some are a nightmare so be prepared to handle them.

There are various certification courses that you can go through, search online. I am trying to do the same thing and I have learned that the best thing to have is examples of your work so I have been doing parties and weddings for friends. I do them for free as long as they will order some wedding pictures that the photographer takes of some of the elements (flowers, decrations, etc.). I am compiling them in a portfolio and, when I am ready to start doing it full time, I will have things to show potential clients and put on my website.

Hard business to get into. Unless you are in a really large area, many people in my area gave up. You really need to have a lot of connections. Advertise! Go to the bridal shows, set up a booth and talk to people. Show them what you can do. They will want to know how available you are and what you can do!

get a job at a wedding planning company before opening your own business. You'll get an understanding of everything you need to know and see if it is really something you want to do without having to invest a lot of money beforehand. Unless of course money isn't an object.

Here are the links to some certification programs. Also some colleges offer event planning courses so keep your eyes open for those. Good Luck!
