Hey all! Dose anyone on here have a Canon 30D? If so what are the pros and cons of this camera? I know thats hard to answer do to it depends on what your use is, but please try your best. I'm Also thinking of the Canon XTI for a camera too. But I hear its like a toy compared to the 30D. Anyhow one thing I would be using this camera for (I hope at least) is sports photography (high school stuff) And night shooting of just about anything.Oh yeah I'm 15 and heres my work.http://www.flickr.com/photos/dannysphotography/dodol: thats what I me by toy. It just doesn't feel as good as some of the other.

Canon makes NO DSLR toys ... not at all. Many pros who own the Canon's that cost nearly $8000 use the XTi as a backup or when the assignment is not demanding of such a high quality image (newspaper and websites are just a couple of uses where an over 50MB image is not necessary). Here is a link to the comparison of the two.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos30d%2Ccanon_eos400d&show=all

Hi Danny. The quick comparison is that the 30D is a lot more rugged than the XTi, with a metal frame and some weatherseals. To me, the fact that the 30D has a spot meter and the XTi does not is the deal breaker in favor of the 30D.For sports, it might matter that the 30D has a burst rate of ~5 fps and a 35-40 frame buffer. The XTi has a burst rate of 3 fps and a buffer of about 30 frames. The buffer wouldn't matter that much, but the frame rate might.

Well I own the XTi and although it is not a toy (I can take good pictures with it) it does feel like a toy on my hand. But that's my only gripe with the thing so... it's really not a toy.The 30D will definitely give you an edge on the ergonomic level. It was rugged and felt more heavy duty than the XTi.As Dr. Sam noted, the 30D does take faster continuous shoot which might matters a lot for sports photographer but I doubt that you will notice a lot of differences between spot metering (not available on the XTi) and partial metering available on the XTi.At any rate... well both the 30D and the XTi will be a good choice for you.EDIT:Yes I'm aware that toy-feeling and thats why I get the BG-E3 battery grip which helps. So my 400D now feels not quite toy-ish.
