Is it appropriate to wear a black dress to a wedding? The wedding will be held in a small church with a dinner reception following.

As long as the style is appropriate (not too low cut or revealing), then I don't see why it would be a problem.

Is it an evening wedding? For an evening wedding that is a bit dressier, a black dress would definitely be appropriate. For a day wedding, it would depend on how dressy the event is, but I don't think the color itself should be a problem - just give it a splash of color

Absolutely. Last few weddings I went to most were wearing black dresses. I wore red and someone said they were happy to see some actual color!

A black dress should be fine. You might want to liven it up a little with an accent color. Like a colored purse, scarf, belt, cardigan/coat or shoes.

Yes, black is fine. It was once thought of as inappropriate, but these days many people wear black to weddings because it is elegant, understated, and classy!

Black is the best way to go to convey elegance and very appropriate for dinner reception and church weddings. The only time I personally feel they aren't the best for are morning/early afternoon weddings or outside venues where the weather prohibits it. ie The Keys at noon..

Yes, black is no longer taboo. I've attended many weddings in the past few year (mostly Italian Catholic Weddings too). Most women (both young and old) were dressed in black. I was one of them. Unless you are wearing a frock, a simply black cocktail dress (also referred to as a party dress) is very elegant and classy.I've never seen anyone looked at negatively for wearing black to a wedding. Ironically, I've seen people in bright colors (like hot pink or blue) looked at in a less then positive way.

Nowadays this is fine. It seems to be the rules have changed. I also have feaked out over this! How many women own a pantsuit or dress that is NOT black! I had no idea what to wear! For one wedding, I wore a black suit with colorful earrings and a red sparkly top.For the wedding I just attended, I wore black dress pants and a purple v-neck to the daytime ceremony, and a black dressy top, black pants, and sparkly earrings to the evening reception. I was worried at first, but there were quite a few others also wearing black.Add some colored heels (I wore sexy white boots), earrings, etc. and you are looking hot!Just note, you may want to wear some extra color for a very early daytime ceremony. A light top with black pants for example. At the very least, if wearing a dress, add a colored belt or shawl. You can remove them later. I always prefer to be safe than sorry!Have fun! Wink
