I'm ordering my wedding invitations and it asks if I want to purchase a lined inner envelope for the invitation. What is that for? Is it just a waste of money/paper, or is it pretty standard?

It is standard. Go for it or your invites will look cheap. Seriously. It also hides the print from being seen through the envelope. The original purpose was to saok up extra ink from the printing press, but now they are mostly used to coordinate with wedding colors. It'll be an extra 70 bucks, but it is an extra touch you should go for, in my opinion.

The inner lined envelope is pretty standard. The outside enveloped should be addressed formally as Mr. and Mrs John Smith. The inner envelope is where you would put John and Jane Smith. The inner envelope is also where you would put any childrens names or and Family as well as and Guest. It is never appropriate to put and family or and guest on the outside envelope.Hope that helps!

The orignal purpose was the same as the vellum insert....to protect the actual invitation. In the case of the outer envelope it was to keep the invite from getting bled onto when the calligrapher inked the outer envelope. They are still used pretty often as a formality but don't actually serve a purpose any longer. You can easily skip them. I don't know anybody who is going to think you are "cheap" except the invitation freaks. If you are on a budget this is one easy way to save yourself a hundred dollars or so (the cost of the invitations plus the extra postage for the weight of the envelope). I also skipped the RSVP cards and just put a phone number instead since half the time nobody sends them back and I didn't want to buy cards, envelopes, and stamps to waste. I didn't get any bad comments, only compliments on how beautiful they were.

Where and How to Start?
There’s so much to do, it can be mind-numbing. Don’t worry. I planned and held my first wedding in two months and my second wedding in three months. If you have the luxury of a year or more, feel lucky!
Wedding Invitation
Ideally, invitations should be mailed out 6-8 weeks before the big day to give guests time to make arrangements to attend and RSVP back to you.
Wedding Attire
Where I come from, buying a tuxedo is virtually unheard of. Renting is probably the way to go to realize the ultimate savings on the groom’s attire.
Wedding Flowers
Cheap doesn't mean that your wedding flowers can't be beautiful. All flowers are lovely no matter what they cost.
Wedding Ceremony Decoration
Most wedding ceremonies are short and sweet, so why spend a majority...
