Written-by-hand definitely shows the personal touch which is something you'll want to convey to your guests. Besides that, it costs money to have labels printed and you never can be 100% certain that the printer got everything right - unless, of course, you generate the labels on your computer which, I think, is more appropriate for a business than it is for wedding invitations. The reply envelopes can, of course, be printed since the replies will all be going to the same address.

Printing is perfectly acceptable! Try setting up your printer to print directly on the envelope. That might be a middle-ground to satisfy your mother and make things easier on you!2nd option: get some friends together that have pretty penmanship and have an "addressing" party. Invite them over for dinner and an evening of addressing the envelopes.

Print them. The wedding etiquette nonsense was created before computers were invented. Step into the 21st century, save yourself some time and do them neatly. They will look nicer and more professional than if you scribble addresses on them. Start standing up to your MIL now. It will be good practice for the future!
