A nice 35mm lens that has a wide angle lens for shooting all the outstanding landscapes on the Island. 200 ISO film will give you the best overall images.

One that is water proof, or at least comes with a water-proof housing.Aside from that, find something within your budget, that fits your hand, controls feel comfortable, etc...,You'll want a macro lens, for those closeups of flowers etc..., wide angle for those landscapes, a really good zoom to get them whales bobbing around, and possibly even a flash that will talk with your camera. Best place to start is at a real world store, with a knowledgeable photographer, and get some hands on with camera bodys, lenses, etc..., and than do some internet searching, try www.dpreview.com, and go over some user reviews. Canon and Nikon are kind of considered top of the line in consumer cameras, but Leica and a few others offer quality units too. These things should give you a good shot at figuring out whats best for you.

A good combination of large negative size and flexibility is a Mamyia RZ67 Pro II. I cannot recommend a negative smaller than 6x7cm for doing landscape. As far as film, that is mostly a matter of taste. I always use Fuji Velvia and Ilford Pan F.

The absolute best camera for what you want to do would be a Hasselblad using Fujichrome Velvia 50 film. You would be able to enlarge wall size prints from this combination on a good tripod. Failing that, go to a good photography shop and try out the various cameras to see what feels best in your hands. Slide film is the best for colour, but is also the most difficult to expose properly.
