I would try to keep things simple--make some kind of beef (steak, prime rib, etc.) chicken and fish as the main courses (you may also want to offer pasta or some other kind of veggie dish). For your side dishes you can do roasted vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, wild rice...depending on how casual you can do things like potatoe salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, etc. Offer things like green and fruit salads, bread, rolls, etc.Just think of the things that you would like to be served if you went to a wedding...but I would say the easier the better. Some people are often skeptical to try new things.

pigs in a blanket are marvelous appetizers, tasty and unique. Little slices of quiche go splendly before a wedding. For the cheaper budgets, just petite hot dogs and squares of cheese. You can take ordinary ideas, and make them splendid by adding some color and spice to the presentation. Bon apetit, mon cheri.

Don't bother with the before the wedding. Finger foods are the best way to go. Set it up as a buffet. You can get tons of appetizers cheap at places like Sam's Club or Costco. You could also buy the disposable chaffing dishes with the burners to keep all the food warm. Sam's has a lot of appetizers (some are like bacon wrapped beef tips, shrimps, etc..)mini quichesCheeses & crackersFresh FruitsSandwhiches (sams has the kind that are rolled up in wraps and sliced.)Dips & ChipsYou could also find a local rental company and rent drink fountains, chocolate fountains (you could do a fondue type set up with this...cut up fruits and pound cake)It will significantly cut down costs doing it yourself, but make sure that you enlist some friends or family members to handle it for you on the day of the wedding. You don't need to worry about it on your wedding day.

We did dips - crab dip, spinach and artichoke dip, hummus - which were served with baguette, crackers and fresh veggies. Salads are also good and simple. Those chocolate fondue fontains are popular (and relatively inexpensive), you can serve fresh fruit, poundcake or marshmallows with it.Cubed cheese and sliced meat are simple to put together. We served ours with pitted olives.Something you can keep warm without having to watch over is good, too - something like soup or spicy meatballs you can keep in a crockpot. If you have an oven available, you could heat up lasagna and serve it, keeping it warm in a chafing dish.

you can serve foods that you both love to eat. Anything but country foods, like beans and potatoes. Whatever you love to eat, prepare that for your friends and family. If you love mex.tex. food or chinese or japanese or martha stewart food. Any food you love to prepare and eat is great. Your wedding will be great. Good luck to you and God bless you in your marriage.

I love Costco!!planning has never been easier.....have you thought about your rehearsal dinner as well.....this you can do "pot luck" style with family members from both sides of the family helping out....Simple stuff....Rice (you can enhance it with your own seasoning and also have plain white). Diced red potatoes or even mashed potatoes with some kind of gravy. Mixed veggies (bake them with broth and sprinkle seasoning), Rolls (Costco has some ready-made at the bakery section like 40 for $3). Macoroni & Cheese from scratch is easier and cheaper (read the box for directions).I think chicken is cheaper, but this you can buy at a butchery around your place because you get more for your money than a regular grocery store. If you decide to do wings, they have frozen bulk that you can bake and season.Drinks - Punch (Kool Aid) has the powder mix which you can just add ginger ale and some lemon slices. or you can also add the frozen drinks for an authentic taste.

You can do a lot of it before hand if you're smart about it. Use those crock pots!!! Pulled BBQ pork, beef, or chicken... you can roast meats in the crock pot (I do turkey breast at least 2 or 3 times a month in the crock pot), chilis, "baked" pastas.... I've kept Chicken Marsala warm, as well as potatoes. I've also done Indian foods, and kept them warm, and have the rice in another crock pot. You can even bake cakes/bread in crock pots.Basically anything that you can do in an oven, you can do in a crock pot, AND it's a lot easier, because you don't have to worry about it burning!

I did my own and we had sub sandwiches, veggie trays, chips, meat and cheese trays, etc.I would suggest foods that don't need to be heated - that way you or a helper (bridesmaid, server, relative, whoever) can set it all up before the wedding and forget about until the reception. With foods that need to be eaten hot (chicken fingers, most BBQs, etc), someone will have to skip the wedding and work on the reception food.

We just did finger foods.Pigs in a blanketCheese WafersSausage BallsParty SpiralsCheese Balls with crackersVeggie TrayFruit TrayMy mom made it all. She isn't really into picking out flowers or all the little details so she did all the food. It was fabulous and very inexpensive. It was a lot of work but if you can split it up between a few people it wouldn't be too much. Some of my mom's friends set up all the food and replentished it as people were going through the buffet line.
