My wife owns an art gallery. Here is her answer:1) PLANNING, PLANNING, PLANNING, PLANNING.2) CASH, CASH, CASH, CASH.3) MARKET, MARKET, MARKET, MARKET, MARKET.4) Have an entrepreneurial spirit: start now (don't wait until you finish college); encourage yourself and always be positive. (You will always have your well-meaning "advisors" (nay-sayers).)5) Be willing to work long hours and neglect all else. Work tirelessly and never give up.6) Take some Gallery classes while in college to get some experience.7) Apply for grants to get financing. Never undersell yourself9) You must have a passion for what you are doing. Desire alone is not enough. When the going gets rough, be prepared for all your so-called friends to abandon you.10 ) Above all, have fun. Good luck -- we wish you well! |
