Hi all,I am getting married to my fiance who is Filipino. Our wedding is a very small wedding about 50 ppl and we are doing our ceremony and reception in my parents beautiful l backyard. Most of his family is in the Philippines, his mom and cousin are out here though and they will be attending. I am wondering what i can do to make my wedding have a little Filipino style to it. I was thinking maybe the cake or a special drink. Our food will be America and we are dressing American style as well. Any suggestions would be great. I would love for his mom to see us do something or have something from there culture.Thank you!!!

ask you hubby to be what he knows about his traditions and ask his family that are here too. you can get some ideas from them. ask about prayers, readings , songs or even types of flowers they use or have . all these can make it look like his families homeland. use some type of music too or dance. as far as his family not being there ask for him to write them and ask for their ideas too.

I would suggest getting a Lechon Baboy (whole roasted pig) to add to the menu. It's very popular and traditional to have it at special occasions and is most definately unique to Filippino's. Don't forget the rice Smile.A special drink would be lambanog (processed coconut wine). It's very inexpensive here and comes in a variety of flavors. Good for the wedding toast Smile.Congrats and enjoy your special day .

Congratulations!Since you are getting married in the US, and you have only a few guests, why not use some wedding traditions that are followed in in the Philippines if this would suite you.1. Songs - some english songs written by Filipino's for wedding occasions can be great, or you can evan have just the instrumentals at some point of the wedding.2. Food - a couple of Filipino dishes can be great to have, but it might be hard to produce or cook if no one is accustomed to doing it. However if your in-law would love to contribute to this, I am sure they will also be happy to do it. Maybe a dessert or one of the main course, like Caldereta, Afritada et al, or a paella.3. Giveaway - wedding giveaway can have a unique Philippine twist, that is if you want to. Something very Filipino and very unique would be nice to give your American guests. You can order stuff from the Philippines, and combine this with stuff from the US. I can think of Capiz shell handicrafts like small jewelry boxes, or small photo frames, where you can place your wedding photo later and give to the guests as a momento of the occasion. And as some have suggested, have your in-law in the loop for the preparation, I think they would love to be of help as well.Again, congratulations and have a wonderful life ahead.

All you have to do is simply discuss your plan with your fiance. I am sure, that will be nice, to have a Filipino style. If you want, you can order for embroidered pina cloth hankies with your names as your give aways.Congratulations and Best Wishes. May you go forth and multiply :)GOD BLESS!!!!!!

if its the food you want to have a flare of filipino culture.. get a roasted pig (lechon) or the lechon baka (roasted calf) as part of your main dish.. and most probably your guest would be wearing the traditional barong tagalog suit...
