Here are the ideas I Am tossing around... (The wedding is September 6th, 2008)-- single stem bamboo shoots-herbs in little pots--linen covered notebooks with a matching pen-linen covered mini photo albums--live evergreen trees-etched glass votive candle holdersI want something eco friendly and relatively cheap- we have 140 people coming to the wedding... ALSO another question-- do you need to have one favor for each guest, or each couple? Do I need 140 favors, or 70 favors??

All your ideas are really beautiful. Typically (at least all the weddings I've been to) there is a favor at each place setting - which would mean 140. If you're going to have assigned seating, you could then put out what you get back in RSVPs and according to how many couples are sitting at that particular table. That way you'd be able to get down to 1 favor per couple. You could also use the favors as part of the centerpiece and only put enough for 1/2 the guests (considering they're all bringing a guest) and make an announcement that the favors are eco friendly and for each couple to please bring one home to enjoy.

Personally, I would go with the votives. My nephew went with the evergreen trees last summer, and everyone I have spoken to in my family planted the trees according to the instructions, only to have them die a short time later. Seems like a huge waste of money, whereas if a candle dies, it can be replaced relatively inexpensively! I would think one candle or whatever you choose would be enough. Congratulations and best wishes to you!

i'm not a big fan of favours, i believe most people either throw them away or toss them in the junk drawer. i don't think people would bother planting the trees, we all have dozens of photo albums, note books, votive holders, and if we want herbs we pot them ourselves. i would much rather see you take that money and make a donation to your favourite charity instead! then have your master of ceremonies, or your m.o.h. or best man, during their speeches, tell the guests what you have done in lieu of favours. i guarantee your guests will think its awesome! no matter what the charity is, they will be pleased you have made a donation! [only you know how much you donated, no need to announce that!]if you insist on favours then i would suggest the bamboo shoots!whatever you choose, have a happy wedding sweetie!btw: easiest way to do it is count one favour per invitation! so if there is couple coming they get one favour and if a single guest is invited he gets one favour.

I like the idea of the linen covered notebooks and pens. Will you put your names and wedding date on them?If you put live evergreen trees as the centerpiece, then during the reception you can have your mc announce that whoevers birthday is closest to Sept 6th, gets to take the centerpiece home. So one person at each table will take the centerpiece. Usually, guys don't take their favours. So what I would do is at the end of your reception line if you are having one and most people do at the weddings I have been to, where people stop to sign the guest book, have the favours in a nice bowl or basket or something, and everyone who signs and usually only the women sign, can take one of the notebooks and pen sets. Have a little sign over the basket stating thank you for coming to my wedding or thank you for helping us celebrate our wedding. I don't know about having live plants as favours. Most people will forget to take them home or if they do take them home, will forget to water them or something, and that is a waste of money. So plan on 70 favors, plus 10% maybe just in case one of the guys who is a friend of your grooms wants to take one, but he probably won't. Congrats and good luckoh. please don't waste your money by putting those one-shot cameras on the tables. It is a good idea, but most of the photos won't turn out because everyone will forget to use the flash

i think favors are unnecessary.but because you want to give them to those who attend i like thebamboo shoots- super easy to take care of and looks good anyplace in your homeherbs in little pots- again, super easy to take care of and you can eat it!linen covered notebooks/albums - not so great it will probably be thrown away or stuffed in a junk drawerevergreen trees- great idea! but i dont think everyone will take the time to plant it and maintain it.votive candles - its just boring and will probably get left behind.the herbs in little pots will probably be the least expensive because you can diy.you should give one to everyone in attendance - 140.if everyone rsvps then just do one per couple.

My wedding favor is a mini bubble bottle for everyone at the entrance whereby they used during our event when we walked the aisle, and they get to keep the bottle with our name and date of wedding printed on the front. I DIY myself! Economical and Eco friendly! And also, I have a portable mini instant camera at the reception where my guests had fun snapping photos of themselves and friends, and they get to keep the instant photos (similar to those polonard ones) or left for our remembrance. Ultimately, they enjoyed the fun. You may wanna think along this line. And yes, definitely one gift for each guest. |

I like either the herbs or the live evergreen trees. Edible favors are one per person and nonedibles are one per couple.
