I wouldn't worry about it. He still has a month to find someone else to go with him. He is your ex, not your current.

He was out of line to invite you to an event without having any authority to do so. Despite The Wedding Industry's constant attempts to convince us otherwise, neither etiquette nor custom require that hosts allow single guests to bring a guest of their own to wine and dine at their hosts' expense. You should be a bit miffed with this gentleman and perhaps expect him to mitigate your disappointment by providing you with a fine dinner and dancing at HIS OWN expense.

Nah, you're giving him six weeks to find a new date! If you're really friends, tell him you'll make it up to him some other time. If he's really mad, just let him cool off and chill out - there are more important things in life than a date canceled well in advance.Of course, this is unless he's spent a deal of money on planning on having you as a date - like if the wedding is elsewhere and he already bought you a plane ticket. Then he has a right to be mad, but that doesn't sound like the case here. Good luck!

Honestly, it all depends on your reason for not being able to go. You didn't say why you cancelled, and that makes a pretty big difference. The problem is that you told this person you would do something, and now you're breaking your word. When you break your word, you need to have a legitimate reason. For example: family emergency, event with work that your boss absolutely will not let you miss, unexpected life event that creates a financial burden...something like that. If you just found something else you had rather do, I understand why he's upset.Think carefully about your reason - which none of us know - and then decide what you should do.

no, don't feel bad, you aren't able to attend and thats that! he has time to find another date and while he may very well be disappointed you can't go, he has no right to be angry. don't worry about it and don't feel bad! now go have a good day!
