I'm getting married in t-minus 3 months, and it's time to get the invitations together. My fiance and I are paying for the majority of the wedding, and his parents are picking up whereever we cannot. I want the invitations to include his parent's and my mother's name, with a larger emphasis on his parent's names, since they are so graciously helping out. How do I go about this without the wording sounding funny, but still acknowledging both our parents? Examples of the wording would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure how you would put more emphasis on their names. You could write " (his parents' names), (your mom's name), the bride (your name) and groom (your fiance's name) request your presence at... " etc... Instead, why not get them a nice thank you present or include a thank you to them on the bulletin that is given to the guests to indicate the order of events for the wedding.

It depends on how formal the wedding is. If it's more formal...Jane and James Doe invite you to attend the wedding of their sonMichael Patrickto Ann Margaretdaughter of Marietta Smithon blah blah blah day at xyz time at location, etc. If it is less formal....James and Jane Doe and Marietta Smithinvite you to share in their joy as their childrenMichael Patrick DoeandAnn Margaret Smithare united in marriageon blah blah blah day at xyz time at location, etc. Those are just two possibilities and obviously, specific wording ("united in marriage" versus "united in holy matrimony" etc) will depend on your specific tastes, religious affiliations, etc.

As far as emphasizing his parent's names over your mother's, I think the best thing to do there would be just list theirs first. Using a different font or a larger size will probably not look good.

This is usually how I've seen it done:Mr. and Mrs. John Smithrequest the honour of your presenceat the wedding ceremony and celebrationof their sonMichael Steven SmithandEmily Denise Jonesdaughter of Ms. Jane JonesatSix o'clock in the eveningin the year of our Lord 2008atUnited Churchblah blah blahTypically the bride is listed first (and in this case the groom is), but this is how you would emphasize his parents name. And it still sounds really formal.Good luck and congrats!
