No way in hell! You want me to come to a party and pay my own way? I don't think so. Let Mom & Dad write the invitations.

There's no cool way to word this, and it is kind of rude.Instead try having a money tree and let people know on the invitation that in leiu of a gift one will be there. That should help them pay for the food.

You should write on the invitations, gifts are not wanted. But dinner will be a dutch event.Dutch dinner means that each person pay for their own meals.Instead of having this event at a restaurant, you could make it more personal and have it at your house/banquet hall/church and everybody bring a dish to pass, and that emlimates having to ask the guests to pay for their own meals. And have it a bring your own drinks and at least have your in laws furninsh the drinks for their guests.Good Luck on this project. My feelings on this, if you can't pay for your party. You shouldn't be wanting one.
