Three dollars a slice is a great price. Don't worry about the frosting flowers. They look pretty and if people don't want to eat them it isn't a big deal. Personally I love buttercream roses!! My wedding cake had buttercream roses (in blue & ivory) on top and cascading down the side of a 3 tier white frosted cake. It was very pretty and yummy too. The buttercream roses are the least expensive option you have. If you want your guests to be able to take the roses off they can make the roses out of royal icing. They will be hard and crunchy like merengues but they are still piped and look just like the buttercream ones. Gumpaste roses are difficult to make and very time consuming. 1 gumpaste rose can take 5-10 minutes to create. If you want a whole bunch of them it is going to add to the cost of your cake by a whole lot - maybe even double it due the the work involved.

$3.00 per serving is definitely a moderate price, it's what we are paying for our cake as well. I don't think it is too much icing if that is look that you want, go for it! If people don't want that much frosting, they don't have to eat the flowers. Everyone loves and expects wedding cake at a wedding so I don't think that you will have a problem with getting people to eat it!
