A friend of mine and my sisters passed away last year, the one year anniversary of his death will be the week after my wedding. I wanted to do something special for him at the wedding. What do you think of this idea?I was thinking about mentioning him during speeches and asking everyone up to have a dance in his honor (he was 25, fun loving and LOVED music & dancing). Do you think this is a good idea or shall I go with the normal thing and just mention him during a speech or put a "in memory of" thing on the order of service?

The neatest thing I've seen for this is a candle that is lit that says "in memory of such and such" or something like that... Look it up online. The dance thing is a good idea too... You don't want to bring the mood of your wedding down though.

I would simply put a mention in your wedding program about your friend. If any of his family will be at your wedding, they may not want to be reminded of the anniversary at your wedding, but will appreciate reading about him in your program. I think mentioning him in a speech and having a dance in his honor and memory is going a little overboard, especially since he's a friend, and not a family member. Remember, its your wedding, it's not a memorial service. People are there to celebrate your union, not remember those who are no longer with us. Good luck.

The thought is nice, but I don't think too much should be said or done at your wedding.1) it brings a sad note to a joyous occasion2) could it cause someone knucklehead to think, "whats she doing calling attention to HIM for? All her attention today should be on her "MAN"" It could make her new husband and her guests feel awkward about the attention and emphasis she's giving "another man" at her wedding. Wait until the memorial service that is given in his memory. Then, those comments and actions would be appropriate. The wedding is YOUR day!

I would honor your friend in your program, if he would of been in the wedding party, I would have an extra seat at the rehearsal and wedding reception tables to honor him...and at the reception I would have the dj say something like this song is in remembrance of -------------,and play his favorite song. This is only if he was a very very close friend, otherwise, I dont think you should do anything except maybe a day or two before the wedding send a note to his or her parents saying that he or she will be in your thoughts that day....

Donate your flowers to the church and put a note in your program that says "Floral arrangements donated to the church in memory of: ________________".We did this for deceased grandparents and my best friend's father, whom I treated like a second dad. It meant the world to my friend and her family, especially because I didn't tell them that I was doing that.Good luck on your big day!
