In May 08 I will have been with my boyfriend for 3 years. We have been living together for almost 2 and half years. In May 07 he asked me how I felt about a destination wedding and then in Aug 07 we looked at rings. It is now Feb 08, and I still don't have a ring on my finger. He knows that I really want to get engaged, but he gets irritated when I bring up the topic. However, he has said on many occasion sentences that start with when we get married....... I was thinking of giving him unitl our third anniversary in May to propose. If he doesn't should I move on? He owns his own business and money is tight sometimes, but he has money. He is a little on the cheap side so I feel that might have something to do with it. He has also been married before and it was a messy divorce. He is 13 years older than me so he more laid back with things that I have never experience. I love him, but I am getting tired of waiting. If there is no proposal in May should I move on?

Perhaps he can't afford the ring. You know he plans to marry you; be patient.

Are you that excited by the idea of getting married that you would lose somebody you love because they are not on your time table? He's obviously been through it before so he is probably a little hesitant now. Some of the best relationships are between people that aren't married.

As it is a leap year, ask him yourself! If he says yes, set a date if he says no, you have the answer to your question. At the end of the day only you can make the decision .

Only you can answer this really. I think personally he shouldn't be forced to get engaged to you, and I do not think you should throw away a perfectly good relationship because you want a ring. if he gets irritated by it, then he obviously does not wish to get married or engaged anytime soon. Also as he has been married before so he isn't going to be in any rush to do it again. He does want to marry you, as he is saying it in conversation.

No, you just need to be patient with this, I know you're ancy, thats how girls are with this type of situation. That's still a long time away, wait it out and try not to bring it up, if it gets to be this time NEXT year and it hasn't happened maybe you should sit down and ask him why, if he has hesitations etc because I really feel it'll happen before then. Good luck!

He loves you and he wants to marry you, but maybe hes a little weary since he's been through the whole marriage thing before and then ended messily. Give him time and he'll do it. Just be patient....if you walk out on him over this, thats incredibly selfish.

whats your hurry? He's clearly thinking of marrying you. Maybe its just taking time...Destination wedding are not cheap. Not something you can plan overnight. Maybe he wants to surprise you. In any case, if you live together...there is no hurry for him to ask. That's how men think. It took my Fiance 4 1/2 yrs. As long as we're together thats all that matters..not how we're together. If you move on...make sure it's not to make him open his eyes and chase you down to ask you to marry him...he's to old for those games and you'll be devistated if he doesn't come after you.You may have an idea of what marriage is like and can't wait for whatever reason, but he knows the real marriage life and maybe is taking his time to see if its something he wants to do again.Best thing to do is tell him how your feeling without attacking him. In a general way is always better....tell him what you see for yourself in the future. Be confident, not needy. Know your worth it and he will know too.

You don't have to "move on" necessarily, but you should tell him that you're planning to "move out" because honestly, WHY should he marry you (why buy the cow if he gets the milk for free?)? Tell him that you are not a cow and the milk is moving away...if he wants you back, you'll come back as his wife.

Sit down and have a talk with him... we don't live in Victorian times and no woman should be waiting around for a proposal or ring!! You need to have a conversation with him about what both of you want out of life and where you see yourselves in 1 year, 2 years, 10 years from now. You might have to move on if you don't want the same things-- like if he is thinking of getting married in 5 years... while your thinking 1 year. I dumped a guy in the same situation and it worked out great for me because I found the person that I should have been with all along! But everyone is different. Sit down and have a long talk- if he won't even talk about it- start packing.Beach Girl- get a life, it's not 1950 and you should test drive the car before you buy it!!

If you're not sure if you want to marry him, then leave. If you want to marry him, and you know that he wants to marry you, as you've talked about it, looked at rings together and he mentions it in the occasional sentence, then why would you want to leave? He'll ask when the time is right for him. He's been down the road before so this time he might be more weary of asking. He wants to make sure that you'll say yes and it'll be a fantastic moment for both of you. If you get to the point where you're done, you always have the option of asking him yourself. What I totally don't recommend doing though, is leaving the man you love.Good luck.

Don't set a "If he doesn't propose before" date. Seriously, that is not a good idea. There's no reason to put that much pressure on things. It sounds like your man is waiting until he's ready, both emotionally and financially. I understand your impatience, especially if you've already talked about destination weddings and gone ring shopping. And you've only been together 3 years. It's not a whirlwind courtship but it's not 10 years either, you know?
