What you might want to do is get signed up on theknot.com and participate in the message boards - both local for your area and the national boards...much more likely to find useful information there than here.

I always suggest that brides give planning a go on their own first. A planner will take about 10% of your budget and alot could be done with the extra money. (They say they save you soooo much but really you break even if anything) If after a while you truly find the planning is overwhelming then you can call in the troops so to speak. I found my vendors using Craigslist. I got a heck of a deal with some wonderful people. The FIRST THING you should do when wedding planning is set your budget. YOU sit there and say "My reception hall is going to cost X dollars"....not sit there and have some wedding industry snob quote you a dollar amount and start writing checks. That's how you end up with a wedding costing twice what it should and looking half as good as if you planned better.

you need to make a budget for your wedding. and the hard part is sticking to it. do you really want to waste money on a wedding planner, that with a little thought you can do it yourself.. A decent photographer is a must. look on line, for a bridle site. good luck, and congrats!

okay, so as far as favors go... the ones i make for everyone are:You get a clear plastic spoon, some hershey's hugs and kisses, some tulle (usually one of the wedding colors) and some business card templets that you can print on the computer. For the cards on one side you write the following:"A Spoonful of Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs." (if you only want to do hershey kisses and not the hugs. -or-"Hugs and Kisses from the Mr. and Mrs."On the back you write their names and dates. For instanceMandi and Lenny NagyNovember 3rd 2008Place about 4 kisses on the spoon, wrap in tulle, place a ribbon thru the top end of one card (use a hole puncher) then tie the card on the tulle. Everyone I have done this for they have loved.Or you can download say 12 of your favorite songs (love songs) and copy them onto blank cds.

I feel your pain! I freaked out completely at first. We are planning on having a friend (that's a photographer) but I did look into several others just in case and it is expensive! As far as I can tell, you can't get anyone to even show up for under 2k and most of their websites don't even look they're good photographers. However, I just got a mailing from someone in my area (Huntington Beach) and his work looks really creative and he's half what the others are charging plus has tons of packages to choose from and also they do videography. I'm seriously considering using him if our friend doesn't work out. Here's the website: He may do Riverside as well.www.aartisticphotography.comAs for the favors . . . what is your theme? Have you chosen a venue yet. I REALLY wanted these personalized hot sauce bottles but nobody was really understanding it because they didn't think it would apply. But NOW we're getting married and having our reception at a Mexican restaurant and it totally applies so I got my way! But mine are going to be super cool, not like the ones you see all over the wedding websites. Also, I'm doing the personalized bubbles and personalized match books.I don't think you need a wedding planner. I just think you're in the horrified mode I was in originally. Once I really wrapped my head around everything, I could completely visualize it and I knew exactly what to do. Don't get me wrong. It's a lot of work, but so well worth it when it all starts coming together.

If you are already getting frustrated, I think you should get a wedding planner. A lot of planners do flat fees now, and not a percentage. Also, if you are already stressed, it will just get worse. For people who enjoy planning, I don't think a planner is necessary. But for those who hate the process (and you aren't alone, lots of people hate the process) a planner is worth their weight in gold1
