I'm interested in having a disposable camera at each table for our reception. I've read however, that most of the time the pics come out crappy and it's just a waste of time. What do you think? Has anyone actually had a wedding and done this and had a good outcome or should I just save my $100 and not do any of that?

Save your money. I have been to 2 weddings where these were on the table. At one, we did take a few pics of the couples at our table (big deal). The other one, a bunch of kids were grabbing all of them and taking silly pictures. It's a total waste of money if you ask me. Save your money and forget this idea.

I'm doing it! I know you were looking for an experienced answer, but I think it's a great idea. I ordered 50 cameras (from ebay) because I know our family/friends will give us some really cool candid shots while the bridal party is busy outside with the "real" photographer.

i hear they have digital one use cameras available now. have never used one but they have to be better than the old type. try one out before hand and make a decision based on your own experience. good luck

You will get a lot of naysayers answering this question. But our experience was a great one. My hubby and I handed out 10 cameras and we got 10 back. Out of the 10 cameras 9 came back with great photos that we will be using in out album (the 10th was too blurry). No drunken pictures of peoples rear ends or thumbs, 9 lots of fantastic candid photos in fact. I hasten to add however that our wedding was held outside in the late afternoon so we had great lighting on our side as well. I am very happy with our result but I think a lot depends on the type of guests you have, the quality of the cameras you buy and the lighting on the actual day.

Who wrote that stuff you read, a wedding photographer? While a lot of the shots make not be the greatest, there's always the chance that someone with a great untrained eye will catch that perfect candid shot, the one that you'll treasure forever. As a makeup artist I've seen photographers' rolls, and you'd be surprised how many shots are rejects, even among the posed ones. Using the cameras as wedding favors works, and you're going to spend at least $100 on wedding favors anyway, right? I've seen some great candid shots that would make your heart stop. What ever your instincts are, consider them. It is your wedding after all...

we did it, and we got pics of our friends and couples having a great time at our wedding. not a lot of pictures of us, but youll have a different vantage point than just the bride and groom. our friends flew from far away to be at our wedding so it was nice to have those pictures, but if you just want pictures of you, stick with a photographer.

Honestly, I would save your money and use it to upgrade something that your guests will appreciate. I have personally never seen any good photos from disposables. I took a disposable camera to a couple weddings and all the pics were bad quality even though it was popular brand of film. I am not stupid when it comes to taking pics but I was even told a couple times that the shutter was closed when I had previously checked to see if it was open before taking the pic. Don't assume that all your guests will know to check this feature ahead of time, because most folks are used to how their own cameras work and aren't accustomed to extra work involved with disposables. Most guests will bring their own cameras from home and are more than happy to give you copies of the pics they took.

they are a waste i was thinking of doing the same thing but my fiance told me people already have digital cameras that they will bring so there's no point of spending money on that.

My sister had disposable cameras at her wedding and she said it was a fantastic idea! They got all the cameras back except for 1, and it was because the people took it home and got the pictures developed for her!I guess it would depend on the crowd that will be there. If there's going to be some crazy people who think using up a whole roll of film taking pictures of peoples' rears is a great idea, I wouldn't do it. But if you know the crowd is more responsible people, then go for it!

Save your money, at my wedding only a couple people picked them up and then they walked around with them so we only got pics of certian people. If you have a good photographer then you wont need them..

I am going to get a few, but I won't be putting them on each table. And, I am going to put them on the tables where my local friends will be sitting. That way, I know I'll get them back at the end. Some of them may be crappy as some people say, but there are bound to be a few good ones in there. Perhaps someone will capture a moment that the photographer may have missed!
