I think i figured out what we could do for our reception. we could have the wedding at 7:00pm and then have the cake and punch reception in the fellowship hall at our church. Between the ceremony and reception (while we're getting our pictures taken), we could have someone go around the room with a video camera asking people to wish us good luck (or something similar). It'll give them something to do while we're getting the pictures done. Then, we can come in and be announced, etc. Then, we can cut the cake and eat cake/dessert, have toasts, and mingle for awhile. Then, we can thank everyone for coming and have the send off (everyone blowing bubbles at us and such). How does that sound?Uh, at 5PM, people would want dinner. duh. no offense, but it's true.we'll definitely have veggie and fruit trays and punch during the wait. Maybe we can also just have a "booth" for the camera person so people can come to him.Iloveweddings:We already planned on getting as many pictures as possible BEFORE the ceremony and if need be, we can get some AFTER the reception if absolutely necessary since we don't plan on it lasting more than 3 hours. We are going to do a slideshow of us from birth to when we met and from then on. Our church association has a projector we can use and I am a wiz at Windows Movie Maker so we're all set in that department. Also, we will have some nice (classical/jazz ) music playing in the background on a CD player during the reception.

it sounds like a wedding reception should sound -fun, full of cheer and good wishes! i love the videocam idea! i love the fact that you aren't trying to upstage every other bride in the area and i love the fact that you truly seem to have grasped the idea that the wedding is about committment, love and honor, and not just an excuse for a big show-off extravaganza!it sounds lovely sweetie, have a wonderful wedding and a happy marriage!

It all sounds great - but i'd strongly recommend having some drinks (if not light desserts, chips, something) after the ceremony for your guests while they wait for the official reception to begin. It can be really frustrating to hang around and wait for photos to be taken of the bride & groom when you are thirsty And if anyone cried at all during the ceremony or if yuor ceremony has singing, the people will be thirsty. Also - let people know (especially good friends) that they may be taped. That will give them some time in advance to think about what they would want to say. |

Hi. It sounds nice. One thing though....if it was me, I would get as many pictures done PRIOR to the wedding (not with you and the groom, of course,) but other ones with your bridesmaids, your mom and dad, siblings, etc., so that all you will need to do is snap a few after. The thing is....this is an informal reception. I like your idea...I do...I have suggested it over and over to brides, but it isn't the typical reception with guests mingling over drinks and appetizers....so I would want to get IN to the reception as soon and I could so that you can enjoy your guests for a time.Have some music playing from an ipod or even a CD player. Another idea (if the room allows) is to set up a table and display pictures of you and your groom from infancy up to the time you are today. Some people put this on a DVD and show it at the reception. But, if you don't want the cost of doing that, you can simply display the pictures. Go to a dollar store (or a thrift store) and pick up some cheap frames. This would also take up a little time for your guests while you are getting pictures taken.Good luck....it sounds nice....and I echo the thoughts of Ozziegal.EDIT: OK...it ALL sounds good!!! Have fun.

I like the sound of that, good timing so that people will not expect dinner, personally I adore sweets and cakes so that sort of reception would be my heaven. Fruit and veggie plates would be a great idea as someone has already suggested, Happy Wedding!!!!

I think that sounds great! We are doing something like that, but we are having heavy hor' d'orves and cake (since the reception starts at 6). That is a great idea about the guests while you are getting your pictures!! I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what they can do while ours are being taken, hope you don't mind me stealing your great idea!! Congrats on your wedding!

Where and How to Start?
There’s so much to do, it can be mind-numbing. Don’t worry. I planned and held my first wedding in two months and my second wedding in three months. If you have the luxury of a year or more, feel lucky!
Wedding Invitation
Ideally, invitations should be mailed out 6-8 weeks before the big day to give guests time to make arrangements to attend and RSVP back to you.
Wedding Attire
Where I come from, buying a tuxedo is virtually unheard of. Renting is probably the way to go to realize the ultimate savings on the groom’s attire.
Wedding Flowers
Cheap doesn't mean that your wedding flowers can't be beautiful. All flowers are lovely no matter what they cost.
Wedding Ceremony Decoration
Most wedding ceremonies are short and sweet, so why spend a majority...
Wedding Music
Music for your wedding ceremony could consist of live or recorded performances.
Wedding Photography
Pictures are priceless, and you want to be sure you have plenty of good pictures of your special day.
Wedding Favors
Some brides don’t like the idea of giving gifts to her guests, but we think it’s a nice gesture as a thank you...
Wedding Food
Wedding food can take a huge chunk out of your wedding budget.
Wedding Cake
Your wedding cake is the centerpiece of the reception. It is a scrumptious dessert as well as part of a tradition
Wedding Party
The question of whether or not to serve alcohol at your wedding is one that can cause dissension in the ranks of family.
