I have changed my eating habits so that I eat lots of healthy foods and no junk foods but occasionally I find myself in situations where I have to attend social eating gatherings. I completely detest eating out because of how bad it is for you, so I don't eat out at all and I encourage my family to do the same. I am an adult. I don't want to ruin my eating habits with this food and I also don't want to gain weight so what do you suggest I do when I am forced into a social eating gathering with my family such as a holiday, funeral breakfast or a wedding? Often the food choices at these events are fixed so I have no choice over what is being served, and trust me if it was up to me I wouldn't attend them at all. My doctor said one meal can also ruin all your efforts for the week and I don't want this to happen to me!

No offence but your doctors wrong. One meal can ruin you for a week but it depends on what you eat. Like , if you goto a resturant there are healthy choices too.Like a ceaser salad , or a chicken wrap are tastey and good for you , Eat what you want , but watch what you eat =)

Either bring your own food or just eat a little. There is no rule that says you HAVE TO eat just because the food is there. As a vegan, I don't expect there to be anything more than an iceberg salad with some shaved carrot bits for coloring... And that's a good dinner, too. Restaurants can be good, as you can always order a few sides-- It's cheaper, too. On the other hand, sometimes restaurants can be surprising. At one restaurant my husband and I used to enjoy patronizing, a black bean burger is offered. It's still on white bread, but I can at least get it with a baked potato instead of fries. As a vegan, as I said, I'm quite accustomed to bringing my own food, even if it's just a granola bar to tide me over until I can get home and make some real food. I don't think I've ever offended anybody, as they've seemed understanding with my choices. You said your doctor said that once mean CAN ruin one's efforts for the week. However, it's just one meal, just one day. Also, if you keep in mind just how horrible the food is and what it can and can't do to your body, you might just be disgusted with it overall. Well, that's what happened with me.
