My husband and I had to pay for our own wedding. I cut corners every which way I could. I made my own flowers, I went to Hobby Lobby and bought the fake ones, not silk, but the ones that look like rubber, look great! Everyone thought they were real. For my photographer I got someone who wasn't a "licensed" one. I saw her work and she was WONDERFUL. This was something she did as a hobby and off side. The price wasn't nearly as high as the "professional" ones, and lucky, my pictures were great! For my cakes, I priced around. I found someone who did GREAt work and was really cheap. For my caterer we knew the guy, so he gave us a great discount. Decorations, we made half of them. I also borrowed alot from my friend who got married before me. Hope this helps!

Our wedding is in April and we are doing wedding cupcakes instead of a cake, fake flowers instead of real flowers, having a talented family friend do our photography, and I did all of the invitations/save-the-dates myself using stuff from Target!Plus, if you do your own flowers they are cheaper than buying real ones that are just going to die. Talk to someone at Michael's who knows how to arrange flowers and see if they can assist you with choices and supplies you will need. Mine were easy, except for the flower girl's small bouquets (since they aren't allowed to throw petals!). On the topic of attire, I would recommend that if you've saved in those areas areas, you might as well splurge on renting a nice tuxedo for your groom and having his wedding party pay for their own. Men's Wearhouse is a great place to look for nice formal wear for men.

have you and f/h set aside your govn't rebate check and stick it in an ing saving acnt. put asdie 50-100 of each pay check.use some of your tax return too!i can set you up with a great lady who is making my invites. she does package deals and a la carte - you will save tons with her. rings- shop jc pennys when they have sales, look for couponsor ebay and craigslisttransportation- use a relatives nice auto- or just rent an suv for the day- don't really need a limoflowers- you can shop local flower stores or grocery store floral dpts (make your own if you like) bring pics of what you want to guide your florist. or silks from afloral.com look great. that's who i went thru for minecenterpieces- i like the tall vases with topiary style arrangements on them. i love gerberas so i think using them is a great way to punch up color and keep your budget downfood- shop around for a site that does in house catering or a caterer that has a great rep and great menulocation- i'm all for outdoor weddings. i think being surrounded by nature is just beautiful and makes for awesome picturescake- shop bakeries but also shop grocery stores. most do wedding cakes and are rather tasty cakes. you might not get all the flavor choices of a bakery but most ppl go with white or choch anyway. favors- you can do organza bags filled with candies. shop ebay for the best prices, seller ideabus, has the best prices and selectionphotographer- look on craigslist for your area, under services, type in photography and see the results. i found a great gal for mine $300 for 6 hrs. some places charge wayyyy more but you should be able to find a good one for under 1kyou might be able to do the same for dj services. or just call around for a good rate from someone with referrals

Do your flowers yourself. The selection isn't as good at samsclub.com or costco.com...but if you do roses, you are good to go. Also check out potomacflowers.com, I can't believe the savings here...and you can order smaller bunches. I am using them because each of my briodesmaid's bouquets are going to made out of a different pink flower...and then my bouquet will be made from a couple of stems of each flower. It works out great for my plan. Making them is easy, you need florist wire, florist tape, some ribbon, some straight pins with embellishment on them...maye some hairspray. I am not doing full wraps on the bridesmaids bouquets, that way after the ceremony...they can place their bouquets in a vase of water which will be prefilled with water on the head table. TaDa! Instant centerpeices. I will be doing a simple centerpeice on all the other tables, just a fishbowl type dish (walmart, michaels, etc) with one large full bloom (just the top) floating in it along with one floating candle. Then flower petals around it.As for the rest of the tables/linens...I am going to rent some plain white linens. I am having my mom sew some colorful 'overlays' to go on top. We haven't found fabric yet, but it will be inexpensive and makes a huge impact on final look. I will also be using christmas lights and tacking them to the underside of the tables around the edge, to create a dramatic look. I will be having a late night (wedding at 7, reception at Cool reception so it will be heavy apps instead of sit down meal. I am going to go ahead and spend a little more than I thought on my gown. I am going to order it from bestbridalprices.com, and then turn around and sell it on ebay. I do not think these gowns are really something to hold onto for your daughter. I mean, the style then will be different anyway and really, I do not want to pay for it to be preserved. It's just not important to me. Maybe you can get a used dress from ebay, or go to davidsbridal. I was impressed by their styles when I went there, and may end up choosing this gown. http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=3360&prodgroup=127. I may be able to sell it for half that and we can buy some new towels or sheets or what not for our house. If you have more than 150 invitations, just hire a printer to do your invitations...shop around, but I've heard that it really isn't worth it to save on those with DIY...but if you have less than 150 to send, then def do the DIY ones from Michael's or some type of craft store. They also have them at officemax, office depot type places. As far as everything else...well, the food and alcohol are the worst. You could cut out alcohol, except for champagne and have a cake and champagne reception. You could rent abuilding in a park and cater it yourself, or have a backyard wedding. Perhaps heav apps, veggie/cheese/fruit/cracker displays, one bottle of red and white wine on each table with a corkscrew as well as one bottle of champagne...then perhaps some beers tubs hidden away in a corner served by a family friend. You can use fancy plastic dishes and stemware along with fancy silver plasticware. You could buy different size sheet cakes from grocery store and pillars/cake stand from Michaels. Only purchase the top tier from a cake maker and assemble it yourself. You may want to have a friend who knows more with you to help with this...or do some reading up on this! Finally, in this year you have....stop eating out. Save your money...put it away (a pre determined amount) as soon as you get paid and then budget everything else very tightly.

stationery:you don't really need save-the-date cards, unless they're standard where you live. depending how crafty you are, you can easily make your own invitations. http://www.lcipaper.com has a selection of high quality cardstock, but if you're less ambitious, they have a lot of nice invitations and other wedding stationery you can print on your home computer. places like Michael's and even WalMart and Target also have invitation kits you can print yourself that look nice and are affordable. flowers:you can always go the fake flower route, or just not have a lot of flowers. there's no rule that says your table centerpieces need to be floral. or you can buy your own flowers and make your own bouquets. try http://www.freshroses.com for flowers (not just roses) at wholesale prices.attire:i bought my dress from a company overseas off of eBay and it was beautiful! and also only $265! i sent them my measurements and the dress was made custom fit. the seller's id was: cinderella-shop . also, make your own veil. i made mine for about $5. directions at: http://www.wegotgame.net/jen/veils.htmlalso, avoid bridal salons as much as you can. of course, try on a variety of gowns so you know which style fits you best before you buy online, but don't buy anything from the salons. they are way overpriced. for shoes, again, shop online. http://www.shoebuy.com has a good selection and a great return policy if you decide you don't like the shoes. for dyeable shoes, try: http://www.saltzbridalshoes.com . the pricing is good and it's a real deal especially if you want your shoes dyed. i did this for my bridesmaid's and they were perfect!the key to doing a nice wedding on a budget is planning. if you're making a lot of stuff yourself, look for coupons, especially to places like Michael's and JoAnn Fabrics and plan accordingly. also, be flexible with what you want as often as possible. and solicit help from as many people as you can!i had a book that was really helpful to me called Bridal Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields. it's not a diy book, but it tells you how to get great deals and little tips and tricks about the wedding industry. i recommend it! good luck!

Engagement photos-- I just had a friend take some snapshots in a park. Engagement photos aren't NEARLY as formal as your wedding photos. I would get a friend to do it who is confident enough. For my wedding, I didn't send out "save the date" cards. I just told the important people who lived out of state on the phone about my upcoming wedding. Of course there are other people who live out of state who wouldn't come to the wedding anyway, but they get an invitation anyway because they're your parent's best childhood friend or something.Definitely make your own wedding announcements/invitations. If you are unsure of how to... ask someone you know well who is good with Photoshop. You can mention that it would make a wonderful wedding present. (Haha.. save BOTH of you a lot of money.) Also, make the wedding announcement ON the photo so that you just have to stick the photo in the envelope. *Get your photos developed at Costco or some other place that offers bulk printing that is CHEAP. For FOOD: You don't have to have catering!Ask someone to be in charge of the preparation... it could be their wedding present to you. You give them the money to go buy the goods. They find people to help them prepare it and they bring it/set it up at the reception. Also, ask someone to help man the cake table.ANOTHER way to save a lot of money on the food is to just have desserts at the reception. I've been to dessert receptions and they are quite delicious! I went to one reception (in a backyard) with like 15 different types of cheesecake for their food. Mmmmm. Another idea is to have an appetizer-type reception: fruit, chips, meatballs, cheese, crackers, those cream cheese and meat roll-ups, etc.ALCOHOL: Don't have it. OR.. if you feel like there has to be alcohol because of the toast, then just have it for the bride/groom or just the wedding party.MUSIC: I've been to a couple receptions where the bride/groom made a CD (or two or three?) of all the songs they want to be played at their wedding. They found someone with a nice boom box and sound system and asked them to be in charge of the music. Another idea for a friend's free wedding present to you.the DRESS: Shop, shop, and shop. This will take time, but you can find the PERFECT dress that is also very reasonably priced! I got mine for $250 and it was ALSO love at first sight. Smile If you fall in love with a very expensive dress, keep searching and don't give up hope! ;)ALSO: For my wedding, I did not use a veil. Mainly because I didn't want to wear one. Instead, I just pinned a flower in my hair.the SHOES: I found some cute white flats for $20. I still wear them! :)the HAIR: Do it yourself (I did!) OR ask someone you trust to do it. Maybe a friend of a friend? Whoever you have do it (yourself or a friend) do at least one trial run several weeks before your wedding. I did two trial runs since I was doing my hair myself. (I curled ringlets in my hair and then pinned some of it back. I have naturally straight hair so I used LOTS of hairspray!)PICTURES: Same as others said... you want someone with experience for sure. Your pictures will be the one thing that will help you remember your special day the most. Again, shop, shop, and shop for that photographer. Ask friends and family for connections they might have to a photographer. You might be able to get a extra discount through a friend of a friend! ;)RECEPTION LOCATION: Have any really wealthy family members with a huge house? Hehehe... have it at their house or backyard! Or, you can just have it in your average American backyard... I've been to some very nice receptions in your average backyard! Smile

Scan the graphic from your invitation and reception card into your computer. Use the reception graphic to make your save the date magnets. You can get the magnets at Staples inexpensively. You can get flowers wholesale to do your bridesmaids bouquets. We did a flower arrangement around the stem of a brandy snifter, put a votive candle in the brandy snifter and have them carry that. They can then take them home with them if they desire. I would do a search for invitations on the internet. We got ours fairly inexpensively because there was no foil or anything on them, just a nice graphic. I would have a florist do your bouquet if you don't have any experience with flowers. You can make your own pew bows, look into having someone make your wedding dress with your help. You can get a beautiful one done for a lot less money. The less formal your wedding is the less expensive it will be. Also, the fewer people you invite to the reception, the more money you will save. You can do a styrofoam cake except for the bottom layer for you and your groom to cut and have sheet cakes in the back for the servers to cut and bring out. The guests won't know the difference and it will save A LOT of money to do it that way. The foam layers are iced and look just like tiers of a wedding cake. You can get one from your baker. You can make your own programs with the graphic from your invitation. Use an inexpensive bird cage to collect cards from guests at the reception. You can use ribbon in the colors of your wedding to decorate the bird cage.

-If you are doing your own invites, RSVP cards, etc. just make sure you arent actually exceeding the cost of purchased invited by buying the supplies you'll need. When buying the supplies, don't forget to check scrap bins and such at craft stores, or bargain close out places. A friend of mine and I found packages of invite kits, 50 to a box, for $5 at a Big Lots that we just stumbled upon one day.-You can cut a lot of odds and ends with attire, you don't need designer nylons...if its summer, do you need any at all? Borrow jewlery from friends or family, it will be pretty, cheaper, and sentimiental for you! Don't necessarily knock yourself out with shoes, who is really going to notice them? Course, I'm a shoe fiend so I'm totally not taking my own advice lol-As far as food, one of the great ideas of seen is having styrofoam iced to look like cake tiers! You leave one small tier as real cake for you and your groom to cut, then serve sheet cakes already in the kitchen. We did this for a friend, the sheet cakes were from Tops...nobody knew the difference, saved a TON, and its cake...it takes a lot to screw up a cake!-DIY flowers can be tricky, so if youre thinking of it, keep it simple, maybe one large calla lilly with ribbons for the girls, skip the boutinneres for the guys, or use simple, classy, white carnations for the guys.

You can have a really GREAT wedding on a super tight budget.. My husband and I got married in Las Vegas ! We DID NOT elope.. We had about 30 friends and family join us for the celebration ! At first my husbands parents were upset by a "Vegas" wedding but, once they were there they and everyone else had a really great time.. As their "gift" to us they paid for an after wedding reception dinner ! They arranged EVERYTHING and it was so NICE ! We were having a regular reception about a month later..*Anyway the Vegas wedding cost $400 that included ceremoney, officiant, flowers and limo pick-up/ride to reception or any other destination, marriage cert. holder, photo's, music and 8 hrs. of internet viewing immediately following the ceremony which was about 15 minutes ! *We did NOT have groomsmen/bridesmaids.. I HATE that why make your friends buy/rent tuxes.... We didn't have to have a rehersal dinner or buy stupid trinkets for anyone.. We just had "witnesses" my sister in law and my husbands best friend that was fine... No MOH and all that crap... Vegas isn't for everyone- so for my home reception... I had a professional cake decorator baker make my cake "privately" in her home... My cake was stunning ! It normally would've cost $600 but, since she did it at home in her "professional" kitchen as a side business she only charged $350 and it was delivered ! It served 160 people ! *Check local bakeries and see if anyone does professional cakes privately.. *If the cake isn't a major concern have the local grocery store make a nice sheet cake for the reception. You can get a full sheet cake for around $40FLOWERS/CENTERPIECES-We had a VEGAS themed reception- we had decks of cards from ALL the casino's- on the tables, poker chips AND I took casino coin buckets to use as containers for my centerpieces.. Since we used our own containers the florist did NOT charge a container "FEE". Our florist is a friend of the family and she did ALL the flowers for around $80 including delivery ! Everyone LOVED them and took the centerpieces home... There was less clean-up ! We also took green felt and cut (hearts/diamonds, spades, clubs ) to put under the centerpieces....*You can find unusual containers for centerpieces at GOODWILL, SALVATION ARMY or OLD TIME POTTERY.... Try antique or thrift stores and resale shops...*We had some many decks of cards we used them as guest cards.. We had some regular white mailing labels and I had my husband write everyone's name/seating assignment on them and folded then in half !*For our favors we used gold chocolate coins from the local candy shop (I used a coupon to save $$$) wrapped in toile circles and tied with ribbon. We puched holes in playing cards which we stuck silver labels with our new name/wedding date... *The stickers were address labels that we got at STAPLES 500 of them for $7 ! We also used them on our invitations ! For my dress- I went to a local wedding dress resale shop.. It took me about 2 hours to find my dress it was PERFECT ! The dress was deeply discounted because it was previously worn but, cleaned... The dress was originally $1000 and I got it complete with TRAIN and alterations for around $400 ! We saved money on invitations by ordering from a friend that worked in a printing company... It also included THANK YOU's....You can get bulk THANK YOU's from a party supply store.. You can even make your own invitations online and have them printed at OFFICE MAX or KINKO'S or STAPLES ask for a manager.... Be creative ! I made my card/gift holder- I didn't want the traditional wishing well.. .Instead I made a slot machine ! I used boxes from where I worked and empty tape dispenser rolls which were both FREE.. I stacked two boxes together and covered them with mylar (shiny foil paper).. I attached a dowl rod as the pull... I even attached a working light on top that flashed.. It was a battery operated lantern... I use "foamies" to decorate the "spinners" they were a HEART/LOVE motif. I even had fake money coming out the slot at the bottom ! Total cost about $20.. EVERYONE thought it was clever. For the bar we were able to bring our own liquer/alcohol but, NO KEGS... So, since my husband worked nights at a local bar we bought our alcohol from them at wholesale prices.. Anything we did NOT use we brought back.... For the beer we bought it by the case at the warehouse store... CHECK the beer isle for REBATES you can get money back ! You may have to send the checks to different addresses but, in most cases it's worth it.. We were also able to return any unopened cases of beer back to the store.. We claimed $100 in rebates and returned about $70 back to the store.... For the wine we bought from a local winery down the street from our house it was about $15 per case we bought 4 cases.. Any leftover wine we gave away.... *If you have a Trader Joe's near you they have an EXCELLENT and CHEAP wine called Charles Shaw.. It's about $2.50 a bottle and you get a discount per case ! In California they call it $2 buck Chuck because it's $2 a bottle !*Host your wedding/reception on a SUNDAY afternoon.... Serve appetizers and champange cocktails and beer... It's cheaper and people don't drink as much since the next day is a work day....- the downside is you may have a lesser turn-out if many guests are from out of town....-don't be too cheap with the appetizers have a lot of them and a big variety. *Another idea is to have SOME printed wedding napkins at the reception... We ordered along with our invitations/THANK YOU's about 200 printed napkins, matchbooks... We then bought some reg. non-printed napkins for the bar area and mixed them together.. Who know the difference ! We had our reception at a local hungarian reception hall/church.. We had a buffet style with Chicken paprikashstuffed cabbagebreaded pork chops..Green beansred potatos and rolls....included cake/coffee service...It was around $22 a person but, we got to take leftovers home ! The food was homemade by the hungarian church ladies... YUMMY we are both hungarian ! Look into American Legion Halls to get GREAT prices on food/hall rental... PLEASE DO NOT have a CASH bar it's tacky..Please do not skimp on food/drinksThe absolute worst wedding I ever went to was for a friend who is no longer married... The reception if you can call it that was held in a dark drab church basement with a boom box stereo and a cookie tray w/ a sub sandwich platter... There weren't even tables just chairs snaked around the room.. DISASTER ! Good luck and I hope some of my *tips* helped....

You could use small cakes that serve only the amount of people who will be at each table. This would be your centerpiece, so you wouldn't have to have a center piece or a large cake. If you get some friends to cut the cakes on the table, or let the guests do it themselves, you'd save the cake cutting fee that the caterers usually charge. You'd also save the cake set up fee that the baker usually charges to bring the large cake over and set it up. I went to a wedding where they did this and it was really nice. Everyone got their cake faster too! Just have a small cake for you and hubby to cut (that way all the guests can see you cut your cake from the head table and don't have to crowd around the large cake!

Invitations come in so many different kits now you just print on your info and are done. Many different designs and are really cheap. I got really beautiful professional looking ones from Wal-Mart and they were $15 for a box of 40. They come with the RSVP card, return evelopes and seals. Save the dates are not necessary but you could do those extra. My mother and I also made the bouquets and they are gorgeous, still cost about $150 for all the silk flowers we used, but most florists I was pricing were over $1,000 for what I needed. I bought my dress from David's Bridal and it was $600 but got it off the clearance rack 50% off because it was missing a lace that went up the back. The sales lady found me a lace that looks like it belongs perfectly and I still got the dress 50% off. They have a HUGE selection of clearance dresses and they do a $99 sale a couple times a year. You could also rent, borrow from a friend, or visit a second hand store for a dress. Depending on how many people you are having you could always enlist some family memebers to make the food. If you can't afford a hall then get a park permit, rent some chairs and a tent add some white christmas lights and you can have a beautiful outdoor party. Or have an afternoon reception with just cake and appetizers at the church afterward. I am getting my cake from Marsh. They have a beautiful selection of wedding cakes and I am getting a three tiered cake for $180 which is about a $500 savings from comparable cakes I saw at local bakeries. If you have a family friend who is a talented photographer enlist them to take the photos. Or check out some photography majors at local colleges who might work just if you sign to let them use your photos in a portfolio. Sorry for rambling, but really if you have a Wal-Mart close that has wedding stuff really check it out. I got the most beautiful ring pillow, flower basket, invitations, cake topper, place card holders, guest book, and pen from there and it was sooo cheap but they look really lovely.
