Hello, My sister got married in 2002. Both lived in the US at that time & came down to India and got married traditionally. They did not register their wedding immediately. The marriage was only registered in 2007. Looks like he had major debt and she found out only a year later. She seems to have a tight life financially due to this. She was unable to work in the US due to visa issues. She returned to India in 2005 and during a meeting in 2006 with him, conceived and this has resulted in a child. He got his US citizenship in mid2006 and all this while he has been saying he plans to return to India. There has been no contact from him for the past 5 months. No answer to email, el calls, etc. Financially support not happening either. She wishes to file for divorce immediately. Any information on how to go about this? I know have to file in India because the marriage happened here. The groom has since become a US citizen. How will this affect anything?

Have her file for divorce in India and choose abandonment/desertion as the reasoning.
