| Hi!I'm wanting to try "traffic trails", you know, where you have a slow shutter speed, and photograph at night, so you get the effect of "lines" on the road from cars front lights?like this:http://digitalarts.mindsocket.com.au/gallery2/d/4115-2/IMG_6971.jpgcan anyone help me out with steps to do this? im very eager to learn.or any tips of the trade would be greatly appreciated!!thanks! |

| I used to do this kind of thing.It really helps if you have a darkroom and do your own developing. Most film cameras (odd to have to specify that) have a setting for "Manual" shutter control. Pick your spot and use a very stable base or tripod mount. It also helps to use a cable shutter release, as any movement in the camera will be captured on film.Now start experimenting. I generally used Tri-X film and exposures at night in a pretty dark location of 5, 7 and 10 seconds. Develop your film and check the results. If you got lucky, at last one of the negatives may have a good density for attempting a print.Color works much better at capturing "trails", particularly from vehicular traffic. I usually shot indoors and used a butane lighter for a "flash". Multiple "flashes" from different locations gives some very neat effects.Good luck! |
