I will be traveling a lot during March and I need recommendations for reading on the plane(s). I don't read a whole lot, other than when traveling, so I think you might be a little disappointed in my preferences as far as books go. The last two books I read were The Confessions of a Shopaholic and The Nanny Diaries. The only other ones I've read recently were on Etiquette, as I'm a wedding planner.I do not want to read anything political, religious, horror, or just plain dirty. ;o)I don't care if it's fiction or non-fiction. I've already checked the bestseller lists, so don't post links for those. I prefer something with a little comedy, a little love, and a happy(ish) ending. I'd be glad to provide more details if you ask. Thanks ahead of time! Surprised)The Westing Game sounds interesting. I'll have to look further into it. Surprised)I should've mentioned that I'm not into the fantasy books--no Golden Compass or Harry Potter for me.Keep the suggestions coming!teresa--I think you're right on the money. I do prefer chick lit. I just couldn't remember the term. I'll definitely check out your suggestions. Thank you.Keep the suggestions coming! Surprised)I LOVE Pride and Prejudice. Surprised)

Hmm, sounds like you like Chick Lit. I'd suggest "Bridget Jones' Diary" and the sequel "The Edge of Reason" if you haven't already read them. "Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination", also by Helen Fielding, is also a great read.I'd also suggest the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, starting with "One for the Money." It's a mystery, but it reads like a comedy, like watching "My Cousin Vinny". It's funny and spunky and great for reading on a plane or at the beach.I'd also suggest "Memoirs of a Geisha". It's a little more serious than the others, but it's so absolutely engrossing and absorbing to read - my friend started reading it once and didn't notice that the plane had landed.

well, i think the notebook was a good book, and i loved reading it. if you want something with a little serious-ness added, try any books by sarah dessen. they might be a little short if you are an experienced reader, but they have a great storyline. some are very sad, and some are inspiring. i loved all of her books, i read most of them by now =Di dont know if you're interested in futuristic-type fiction, but if you are, heres a LONG book to read on your trip that the time will pass by. "uglies" by scott westerfield is pretty good.i saw the movie for "tristan and isolde" and thought it was soo good, i dont know if there's a book for it. if there is, you should definitely check that out.p.s. some of these books are mostly dramas, because i dont read comdies that much. they all have love/happy endings. (mostly) have fun on your trip and enjoy your book[s] ! =)

I think you might want to peruse my website which is devoted to books. I have lists of classics, mystery, romance, spy novels, historical fiction, recent teen fiction, sci-fi, and more. Here are a few that jump out:Nora Roberts, LaVyrle Spencer, Debbie Macomber, Barbara Delinsky, Sandra Brown, Jude Deveraux, Judith McNaught, and Catherine Coulter are some particularly good romance writers. A few also write mysteries.Stephenie Plum (by Janet Evanovich) each title has a number in it and the books are in order by the numbers. Stephenie has become a bounty hunter working for her disgusting cousin Vinny out of sheer necessity and occasionally she actually is, more or less accidentally, successful. However, she has lots of mishaps especially with her cars. She lives in the old neighborhood and her family is a part of each book. Her grandmother is a riot and the books are generally quite funny, with a bit of mystery, and a bit of romance thrown in.This is a partial list of classics from my website.Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott (1832 - 1888; American) - Rose's father has died leaving her an orphan. She goes to live with her Aunt Plenty and Aunt Rose. She is very lonely until she makes friends with a servant, Phoebe and then seven cousins, all boys, arrive. Life will never be the same. Publication 1875.Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (1832 - 1888; American) - This novel about Jo and her three sisters, Meg, Amy, and Beth, is set during the Civil War. Their father has gone off to fight. It is based upon the author's life and the lives of her three sisters. Publication 1868.Little Men by Louisa May Alcott (1832 - 1888; American). Publication 1871.Jo's Boys by Louisa May Alcott (1832 - 1888; American). Publication 1886.Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (1816 - 1855; English) - This is an amazing love story. Jane, an poor orphan, grows up in the loveless home of a hate-filled aunt. Her close friend at school dies and cruel punishments are administered by the superintendent. As an adult, Jane falls in love with her employer, Mr. Rochester. He is tormented by a terrible secret in his past. This is a true gothic tale of suspense, romance, insanity, and attempted murder. Publication 1847.Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (1818 - 1849; English) - The is the story of the tortured romantic relationship of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, an orphan adopted by Catherine's father. The tale is set on the rugged moors of Yorkshire. Publication 1847.The Tenant of Windfell Hall by Anne BrontePride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (1775 - 1817; English) - The courtship of proud Mr. Darcy and prejudiced Elizabeth Bennet is complicated by their persistent misunderstanding of each other's actions and feelings. There are many interesting characters. Mrs. Bennet is preoccupied with marrying off her five daughters. There is an impressive dowager aunt who intimidates everyone except Elizabeth. The amazingly conceited clergyman rehearses his speeches to young ladies. The story is set in the 18th century. Publication 1813.Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen (1775 - 1817; English) - Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are two very different sisters. Elinor is sensible, while Marianne is sensitive and emotional. After the death of their father, the girls, their mother, and younger sister are forced to move to a small cottage in the country. The sisters fall in love with eligible bachelors, but problems arise. Publication 1811.Emma by Jane Austen (1775 - 1817; English) - Emma Woodhouse is a young lady who is intent on matchmaking. After many complications Emma finds that her scheming has served to confuse matters and hurt other people's feelings. Publication 1815.Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (1775 - 1817; English) Publication 1814.Persuasion by Jane Austen Publication 1817.Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen Publication 1817.Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874 - 1942; Canadian) - Orphaned red head Anne Shirley goes to live with an elderly brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert on Prince Edward Island. Anne is a bookish dreamer who needs to be loved. Publication 1908. Sequels include: Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne's House of Dreams, and Anne of Ingleside.Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier (1907 - 1989; English) - Wealthy Max de Winter remarries and his new bride quickly realizes something is wrong at Manderley. In the opinion of the housekeeper, who was devoted to Rebecca, the last mistress of Manderly, the new Mrs. de Winter is timid and nervous, nothing like Rebecca. The housekeeper becomes the new bride's enemy as a horrible mystery about Rebecca unfolds. Publication 1940.The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness OrczyThe Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804 - 1864; American) - A young woman, Hester Prynne, is shunned in her community of New England Puritans and forced to wear a red "A" on her chest because of her sins with the local minister, Arthur Dimmesdale. Hester's husband, Roger Chillingworth, is jealous and full of vengeance. Henry (1862 - 1910; American) - A young couple want to make Christmas special despite lack of funds. Each does what is necessary to buy just the right present for the other. The results are quite ironic. Publication 1906.North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell (1810 - 1865) Publication 1854.Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell (1810 - 1865) Publication 1865.Vanity Fair by William Makepeace ThackerayThe Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony HopeThe Call of the Wild by Jack London (1876 - 1916; American) - A domesticated dog, Buck, is kidnapped and sold to gold hunters. They face snakes, wolves, bears, and a lion, but are doing quite well until they discover a way to leave the island. Who will go? Who will stay? This was made into a movie a very long time ago.
